that's where the handicap system is inadequate. Giving strokes on the toughest holes to a set of guys that can play is tough, because most likely, one of them is going to get a natural par and your own odds of birdie are very low because of the difficulty. I frickin hate that.

Amen. Competitive golf should be played heads up. I am too embarrassed to take strokes from anyone.

I know the feeling. We usually play Wolf though, so nobody gets shots and it doesn't matter.

handicaps work in one on one golf, but do not work in any games involving partners, especially single digit types. Giving strokes to a team with two 4 hcps is just silly. Odds are, at least one of them will par each hole on the course.

Better golfer in their prime Arnold Palmer or Tiger? I say Tiger but what if AP used todays clubs?

the clubs don't matter. the question is about how dominant they are relative to their peers, who are using the same equipment.

Tiger is the most dominant golfer ever and possibly the most dominant athlete ever. I'm not a huge Tiger fan because he makes things uncompetitive when he's rolling. That's a very strong statement.

He is in a class of his own. I think it has to do with how young he started also.

I disagree. I think it's because he has unbelievable talent and unrivaled mental strength. The guy has the best short game ever, period.

They may "work" but if I have to give strokes, I had just as soon not play a competitive round.

so your cool with getting strokes, but not with giving them when warranted?

I have never taken a stroke in my life. When I play with scratch guys, I am more concerned about learning from them than I am with asking them for mercy. Actually asking for mercy is a week suit of mine.

I hear what you're saying and agree in principal, but how do you level the playing field. If we can all agree upon what everyone shoots on a good day (handicap), then can't we level the playing field and be competitive. Otherwise, the scratch guy wins almost all the time.

I don't view playing with handicaps as a weakness at all. I think it makes one on one play more fun. I just think it translates poorly to team games.

That said, wanna play straight up?

Straight up for dinner and beer. Lex, Bowling Green, Knoxville, or Nashville? I would say HH but the twins are on the way.

:lolabove: Right now it is 8. I assure you that you are presenting quite a challenge for me. This will give me a reason to work my butt off on the range.

When are the twins due? I'm willing to come to Lex and play your home track, but no sooner than 60 days after the twins arrive.

That my friend is simply wrong. I am building a house less than a mile away from a golf course right now, but the running joke among my golf buddies is that once the kids arrive, it might as well be 100 miles away.
