The Golf Thread

Golf thread has been noticeably slow this week. What gives? Everyone play poorly on Independence Day?

Played 3 times on vacation in Destin

Burnt Pine at Sandestin, it burned me up.
Seascape shot a 87, and Kelly Plantation shot a 90.

Just made an 0800 tee time for Saturday.

Double bogey on 402 yard par 4 hole after 334 yard drive = :banghead2:

Contrary to popular belief, a bad day on the golf course is NOT better than a good day in the office.

I've seen WGC's driver. When he takes it back, it starts telling stories about when it was a kid in the 1980s.

If he hits it 335 yards he must be able to fit in at least 20 years of material.
what are you talking about? I regularly hit it 340 with my knockdown swing.

In my experience, those spending time bragging about long drives exaggerate to the nth degree, miss most fairways and have never broken 80.

WGC has got a good raw swing and when he connects, it goes. It sort of looks like Ernie Els after he's had a few.

That is a good thread. Which drunk golfer do you most resemble. I would say I look like a drunk Ian Woosnam. I may be able to go with Darren Clarke.

I needed to do some research. Ian is too short and Clarke is too tall. I guess I will have to go with Billy Mayfair.

A couple of years ago a friend of mine saw Craig Parry playing a practice round at the Masters and swore up and down that it was me.

I am dying to know if you took relief from the cart path.

 If I had been told that I'd hit a ball that far before the round, that's the way I would have thought I'd get it.

It was one of those lasers that cut the corner perfectly, cleared a fairway bunker and was aided by a downhill roll. It would have been a legit 300 on a straight away hole, but I was proud of myself. That is until I double bogeyed the hole.

Now I did get a little cart path action one time back in a high school tournament that put me right at 100 yards on a par 4 465 yard hole. That was sweet. Back in those days, I bet I at least salvaged a bogey from there.

so it was actually 300-ish

Judging from the 9 I played yesterday, it means "going to cause a pull hook to creep into your game and make for a frustrating round."
then I'd appreciate your avoiding such language here in the future. Sounds like a word that should be put off limits - like the dreaded "sh*nk"

I've got a better one than that
Back when I was in the Army, a playing partner in my 4-some hit the Commanding General for Ft. Sill.

needless to say, we let him make the drive up and apologize by himself. Then we promptly left the course

who was the CG?

There is always the dreaded "O my god did I just hit that car?:gone:

Actually, I did almost hit a car. The tee box on three borders a neighborhood road with OB left. The car was moving parallel to the drive at about 35 mph. If he had been going 40, I would have drilled him.

That, of course, leads us to today's word problem: If a car passes the tee-box going at 35 mph at the same time the driver face impacts the ball at 114 mph with a 3 degree closed clubface, how much will Cotton need to pull the ball in order for someone to need to purchase a new windshield?
