I get that everyone plays the same course, so they suffer equally. But these greens are awful.
It would have been one thing to keep the course as it is and beef up the rough, but to completely dry everything out and kill the greens is just asinine. I have no issues with any Horschel said in his post round interview.
How many were there, other than the one bad swing on 18 (uphill block to the right) at Augusta in 86, and the one bad 4th round at Augusta when Faldo took him down? Am I forgetting something?I'd like to hear more from Greg Norman about late Sunday major meltdowns.

The Tway, Gamez, and Mize hole outs weren't the result of Norman meltdowns. I don't remember much about his playoff loss to Zoeller in the U.S. Open, but Norman made a super putt on 18 in the last round for a par when Zoeller waved the towel in surrender.
Does nobody play with Fairway Woods anymore? I realize my buying options aren't great (Bass Pro, Academy, MC Sports, Johnny Macs) but I can't find a 5 wood anywhere. Broke the head off of my Adams Tight Lies about 2 years ago and am now missing the 5 wood as I am playing more these days. Too much of a gap between my 3 wood and 3 hybrid.
He did lose playoffs in all 4 majors, but won 2, but he managed to win 20 times on the PGA Tour, 14 times on the European Tour, 31 times on the PGA Australian Tour, 2 times on the Japan Tour, and 25 other assorted wins..... 4 or 5 of those as a member of a 2 man team with a partner.Yeah, Tway holed out, but Norman shot 76 that day. He shot 75 in the playoff against Zoeller. He led all 4 majors after 3 rounds in 86. Norman was snakebit to a degree, but he coughed up at least 3-4 majors.

That is 92 wins all together, with 67 on the 4 tours, so he didn't choke a lot more times than he did. He was number one in the world every week for over 6 years.
I saw Weiskopf play in person several times. He was a very impressive player who hit the ball really well. Probably one of the best long iron players that I saw back in the day, but he was a head case with a bad temper.Usually the PGA will follow up and schedule their championship at a course where a US Open's been held. If they go to Chambers Bay anytime before 2025 they are idiots. That course was not ready for a regular tour event, much less an Open. The greens need redone with bent grass along with other fescue varieties grown in the rough. The bunkers need the rocks cleaned out of them, especially with the fairway undulations that steer the balls into them. There was zero definition of the fringe and putting surface and with those undulations that is extreme, especially when they are putting on low mown weeds. Could go on, but won't. Will be a beautiful setting if they make changes and let it mature.
FOX's on-course cameramen were out of position often, frequently moving in the line of sight of the golfers. They lost the balls coming toward the camera in the air from the tee and approach shots. They stalked some of the golfers like paparazzi. Should have hired away some of the production team from CBS or NBC IMO. There were aspects of the announcing team I really enjoyed and other parts were amateurish. Loved the commercial free period at crunch time.
No wonder Weiskopf rarely beat Nicklaus. He acted just like he did on tour getting prickly about players needing to know what par on 18 was going to beso they could game plan. Just hit the shots and count the score and not worry about what you call it he kept saying. Is it too much to ask to know what par is on a hole, Tom. They could say what will the distance be instead, but that means essentially the same thing, Tom. Some really good pros will not go for the green on a Par 5 every time. They might actually want to know where to land their tee shots before they hit them if it plays as a Par 4. Doofus.

Because of all the emphasis on "the majors." Take away the 2 miracle shots of Tway and Mize and they would. That would give Norman 3 legs of the grand slam(which is the number of legs that Palmer and Watson have.)Yet nobody mentions him in the same breath as Watson or Palmer or Player or Nickalaus. I wonder why that is?
Tway's bunker shot was downhill and lightning fast. It would have been 5 or 6 feet past. Norman lost that PGA to Tway and the 89 British Open to Calcavecchia while both used Ping wedges with square grooves that were basically cheating the rules. Norman had more pure skill than the others. The Mize shot was a miracle. Tway's, not so much, and even if it hadn't gone in, he would've parred and gotten into a playoff.
Greg Norman was basically Phil Mickekson except with a couple of screwy endings at the Masters.
