Tiger Woods is amazing. That run to beat Holmes was absolutely amazing. I've never seen someone that can just flip a switch and get his putting stroke back like that.

was reading about that match this morning. Pretty amazing stat on the day

He had never faced an opponent who consistently blasted it so far past him off the tee, but playing against J.B. Holmes in the first round of the Accenture Match Play Championship, Woods was first to hit from all but one fairway.
He's just unbelievable when the pressure is on. Agree with you bill, his ability to find his driver/putting stroke/bunker shot when it's needed most is just ridiculous. Man he's fun to watch though

i've actually found my driver midway through a round. Never recovered from a bad short game (chipping or putting) during a round though. It was amazing to watch. He took a drop from an unplayable then came back to go birdie-birdie-birdie-eagle.

also the fact that Tiger was able to maintain his composure during all that because Holmes was playing INCREDIBLY slow

One word: BPE.

Best Putter Ever and there's nobody really very close.

His putter carries him, that's for sure. But there are times that his putting is not very good, and when that happens, he doesn't have a chance. However, yesterday he just flipped a switch on 13 and his putting came back with a vengeance. It's just scary.

everybody, Tiger included fights tempo and balky putter days, but put him on fast bent and I'll take him over anybody ever. Crank up the pressure and I'll take him over the field on slick, true greens.

In fact, I don't like his putting on slow greens. He has never been very good on them. I think he picks and chooses his schedule based heavily upon the greens.

As far as flipping the switch, it really only takes one to give all the confidence in the world, and only about 1/8th of one to take every bit of confidence in the world.

Tiger and Stewart Cink in the final, Cink hits a ton of fairways and rolls the ball as well as any putter on the tour except Tiger, while I certainly wouldn't bet against the worlds # 1, Cink may very well give Tiger a run for his money. I think Cink has a great chance but Tigers pressure putting in the clutch should be the difference maker.

Went and hit balls today for about the 3rd time this year. Coming along nicely.

For the first time in a couple years I'm feeling a real flow to my swing and the ball is coming off very very crisp. I feel very under control.

May be a good year.

are you trying to jinx yourself?

I really hope the golfing gods don't read VolNation.

So much for my thought that Cink had a shot, Tiger has complete control of his game right now and looks to be primed to just flat out dominate the field every week he plays.

Well, it looks like I will spend a large part of my honeymoon getting whipped on a golf course. I'll post some details when I get them worked out, but leave it to say that I will be adding a few more logo balls to my collection displaying all of the courses that I really have no business trying to tackle.

where are you headed

So far, it is officially undecided, although I think we are both leaning in the same direction. Let me get some arrangements made this week, and I'll post it.

I'm either going to have to get a lot better really fast, or the wrong person might just start off with the upper hand in this marriage. Maybe I'll go read a golf magazine.

looks like the Big Easy got it done this week on a brutal looking track with some harsh wind. love to see him bring it back.

with duke finally playing on a saturday, i played my first full round of the season and against competition. Opened with a nightmarish 47 on the front, but closed out rather nicely with a 40 on the back. Most of my problems were of my own doing, not trusting my distances and trying to overswing a 5 iron instead of just an easy 4, etc. Those handful of overswung 5 and 6 irons wound up about 40 yds in front of me and some serious divots to fix.
