The Golf Thread

I have made half hearted attempts. It is hard to get people together. I think we should try again this fall.

I think we should actually find a serious group, pick a weekend in the summer, reserve some spots in Crossville, and whoever shows up shows up.

That would be awsome, maybe a Friday before a football game, there are some really really nice courses there.

No chance. Any Captain that picked him would be a candidate for an immediate labotomy.

My bad I meant John Holmes or J.B. whatever you want to call him, hes from Campsbellville and has played at Valhalla more then any other pro player I know.

is anyone headed to louisville this year to watch the Ryder Cup? I'd absolutely love to see it, but seeing that (a) right now I'm a poor grad student and (b) I have no idea where my degree is going to take me, I have no idea if I'll be living anywhere close to Louisville in September.

I'll be there for sure

i thought he was talking about John Holmes the porn star.

He went by John Holmes in college. He changed it to JB after turning pro for that very reason. There is a pretty funny quote he gave reporters about that, but my google skills can't seem to dig it up at the moment.

Made my first adventure onto the golf course for the year. It was only Pine Oaks though, I'm not sure that counts. Played a lot better than expected. Wasn't sure I had spent enough time on the range, but I figured there was no better way to work on my short game.

Ironically, I've been hitting my driver and irons quite well at the range, and if I do something wrong, it's usually pulling through too quickly and hitting it left. Not today. Today I seemed to leave the club face open at impact a little too often and put way too many shots right. However, my short game was very solid surprisingly. Had it not been for the triple on the 190-yard par 3 (go ahead, laugh), I would have been extremely excited about my score. As it is, I'm more than satisfied.

Mickelson won at Riviera today. Riviera is a very tough course, but the lack of rough just shocks me. Mickelson gets hammered playing a track with Bermuda rough. I'm sure he hit some fairways, but it sure wasn't very many.

Sounds like you play well, age?

I'm 26, been playing for close to ten years now. I would say I was decent at one time, now I get to play so sparingly, it's anyone's guess what will happen.

As for the Open, it's at Torrey Pines. Hopefully the course will (and i expect it to) be playing much more difficult than Tigger's first go round a couple of weeks ago.
