The Golf Thread

I grew up playing on brown grass and rock hard fairways in the Summer. The original 9 holes at Link Hills was designed by Robert Trent Jones, and he had no forced carries, except on the steeply uphill number 2. All traps were to the sides to allow runup shots. They added the 2nd 9 in about 1966 or so.
Love Link Hills!

Is it just me or does there seem to way more commercial breaks than usual for a golf tournament?

Kuchar’s jacked up takeaway was making me nervous last night. For the life of me, I don’t see how he gets that to repeat under pressure.

That putting stroke looked a little ~~~~~~~going back also
Lol Yeah... His putting mechanics are interesting to say the least. Pretty funny when after about the second or third wipe, Azinger said “it bothers me that I use the putter up the arm like he does”.

I think a lot of it is he’s just a lot taller than most guys out there so everything he does looks strange.

I played golf today for the first time in a couple of years, and had only played 63 holes in the last 7 or 8 years. I do go out and hit balls fairly often, and practice chipping and putting on occasion. I have a bad back and bad knees, and being bent over putting is painful. Anyway, I turned 70 about 2 weeks ago, and since I am in Florida right now, I decided to play St. James Bay Golf Resort. www.stjamesbay.com

I only had time to play the front 9, and this is a very nice golf course, and will eat your lunch if you are hitting it sideways. So, after 8 holes, I have hit 6 greens in regulation and have 7 pars and a 3 putt double. The double came on a pushed 5 iron right of an uphill green, a pitch to 12 feet and a 3 putt.

I'm feeling pretty good going to my last hole, number 9, hoping to finish on a good note. It is a par 4 dogleg right with water all along the right and o.b. left. Kind of looks like a reverse of 18 at Pebble. First tee shot, I try to cut off too much dogleg, balloon it in the wind, and drop it in the lake. Next one, I aim a little left of the first one, hit a good solid tee shot that hit land because I didn't see a splash. I never found it. I didn't look too close in the rough near the lake, because it was near the sign that said "don't feed the alligators."

Tee shot # 3 looks pretty good, draws a little and apparently went through the fairway and o.b. left. When you have never played a golf course, and hitting across a dogleg, it's hard to judge distance. 4th tee shot out left again. I don't think I had missed a fairway until that one. When I finally finish, I must have made a 14 or something. LOL! I hate this game.
