The Golf Thread

Not even slightly. Like you always do, you’re drafting your own narrative.

Even with a scenario where charges are dropped, it’s just as likely it’s not worth the hassle as compared to it being “an overreaction”.
I think what most struggle with is that it seems like “it’s not worth the hassle” would’ve been the thought process from the very beginning. Maybe the initial exchange was more adversarial than has been reported but it seems crazy how everything escalated.

I’d bet that he’s used to security letting courtesy cars through at PGA events and he probably made an entitled move not realizing it was an actual cop and scene of an investigation. A whole lot of bad circumstances coming together.
I'm not even sure it was an entitled move. He was in a PGA-marked courtesy car, and security (who he thought the police were) is told to let those drive around wherever during the tournament. This seems like that one time out of 10,000 where "Hey, this is just a big misunderstanding!" is actually true.

I get why in the heat of the moment they stopped him, but I wonder if after a few minutes the police suspected or knew who he was and just went through with the arrest because of the appearance they'd be giving him special treatment if they let him go. This is the same PD that shot and killed Breonna Taylor a few years ago and still are probably super sensitive to potential bad PR.

What you guys don’t understand is when there is a fatal traffic accident it’s not your normal crash scene/investigation. Unless you are emergency personnel the roadway is completely shut down. Photos have to be taken and measurements of the crash scene have to be made. Just go look at the videos of the incident, look how many cops cars are there and look how backed up traffic was. I don’t think Scheffler meant any harm, it was just an unfortunate situation all the way around.
Yeah, but he didn't know that and it was right in front of the entrance to the course grounds, so he thought it was just course security. He was in a PGA-marked courtesy car and security just moves out of the way of them because they're trying to get into the course. Sounds like a gigantic misunderstanding based on the circumstances of the situation.

I’m still wondering why a guy was in the middle a rainy roadway at zero dark thirty to get hit by a bus in the first place.

Based on what I saw earlier to definitely look like the cop escalated. A reported on scene kinda said the same thing without saying it at the time.
According to other players who arrived before him, they were motioned to go the same line as Scottie when they noticed they were PGA official vehicles.

So, Mr. Police Ociffer, why did the other players before him get waved through without incident?

Again, just saying it gives me pause. I know VN is like the rest of America and that it’s simply this or that with no in between. Darlington is a respected journalist that would tell the whole story. But yall do you. Clearly this is all the cops fault because… well because you automatically assume so.
The fact that Scheffler has actually been charged with a felony for doing what others were cleared to do BY POLICE, sort of does make it the cop's fault

This will be the last time that Valhalla hosts a major championship.
I went to the Ryder Cup at Valhalla back in the early/mid 2000s. One of the best sports experiences of my life. Love the venue, hope it sticks around.
