Played Rarity Pointe today (new course/super-swanky neighborhood just across the Fort Loudon Dam on 321).
First, the course is demanding. Tons of elevation change on just about every hole (especially for lake frontage). Nothing is "straight away." The greens are difficult to borderline ridiculous in places -- lots of tier-work and even moguls. The course was in good shape, overall, for being so young. Much of the rough and OB are in early growth or still under construction. My buddy stated after the round: "If you could learn to score well here, you could score well anywhere."
The public price of $75 is way too high, but if you are "with a group" (member of a non-profit organization, etc.), it's $50. Find someone to claim before you call.
I played OK -- went out rather well (for me) in 42, especially given that I pissed away a couple of shots due to not knowing the course. My short game, though, was much improved. I'm now a true believer in the Pelz series. I haven't even finished the first book yet, but my shots from inside 90 yards are no longer pure guesswork. I rarely used my 60 wedge before, and I probably hit it 8-9 times today. Also, I've been focusing on speed and trying to relax when putting, and I probably rolled it as good as I ever have.
Anyway, I'm excited. I'm playing there on Wednesday in a tournament, so I'll report back!
Oh, GA, I went to 4 wedges last year. I hit my PW about 125, the 52 about 105-110, 56 about 95. I don't really ever try to hit my 60 full, but it's money when I need to loft one in from 50 or less, and great out of the sand to a short pin or off of difficult lies around the green. All but the PW are Callaway X-tours with the MD grooves in the 60.
