The Golf Thread

I played 9 this evening--the back for a change, as there was a gaggle of women on the front. The new cart is nice, but the governor is not yet fully adjusted. It accelerates very quickly but tapers off too soon. By the weekend this shall be resolved.

On a stranger note, I played barefoot from the senior tees. It was sort of liberating. I actually hit the ball pretty well. My putting sucked (5 3-jacks) but our greens are still in bad shape so I have an excuse.

please don't take your shirt off, like John Daly recently

just wanted to let everyone, most notably BPV and GA that I think moving the ball back in my stance seems to have really helped my wedge game. Guess I had moved it up inadvertently. Took a while to get the motion down and not be topping the ball, but it seems to be fine now. Guess we'll get a real test Friday afternoon in Morristown. Thanks for the helpful advice everyone.

went and hit a few balls today. probably the worst I've ever hit the ball. My swing just feels awful lately. I'll take a practice swing and then when i swing to hit the ball, my hands always do something different and it feels weird, I dont know if i'm thinking too much or what.

The strange thing about Faldo is that he always seemed so strait laced when he was playing. Now we come to find out that he is a really funny guy.

just followed and chatted with one of my good friends in the Nationwide event in Ft Smith this weekend. He finished 5th, but played well for him. Exciting for him.

His wife and father nearly tackled me when he eagled 11 to get back in it.

If you believe the British press, Azinger said he reinvented himself to this new style to hold down his new commentator job because everyone else thought he was an a**hole.

i was hoping Goyods would be able to pull the victory out today. i never have been much of a Sergio fan to be honest.

I talked about a good friend of mine from the Nationwide Tour yesterday and have a sad story from our weekend.

I spent Sunday afternoon following my buddy with his father around Hardscrabble CC. Another gentleman, whom I had never met, spent the afternoon with us. He rode the shuttle back to our cars with my wife and I and we parted with our "nice to meet you's, etc". My buddy called me this morning to pass along that the gentleman was found dead this morning.

I'm not sure why I've reacted so strongly, but it's a clear message about how precious life is. I'd simply like to ask for prayers for his family from our small VN golfing community, if it's not too much to ask.

Thanks, in advance.

Curtis Strange is easily the biggest a-hole commentator - in the history of golf. It's not even close.

Among other egregious actions, I've personally witnessed Strange cuss out a kid looking for an autograph after his round was over. When asked about it later he said it was because he had to get to the commentators booth and he was in a hurry.

That's odd; I met Curtis at a corporate event where he spoke, played a couple of holes with our group, and then hung out for about an hour afterwards. I know he was being paid for the appearance, but he seemed like a pretty nice guy.

I used to play at Country Cub of Virginia quite a bit and both Strange twins were members. Curtis practiced and played there every once in a while and was by most accounts, the biggest jerk in the club. Always had to hit balls on the opposite end of the range from everyone else and would complain if anyone was hammering them down there near him.

His arrogance aside, he did design an awfully nice third golf course for the Kingsmill resort over in Williamsburg.

My fellow VN golf faithful, I have played 3 rounds in 4 days....and lived to tell about it :)
Saturday I played with a guy that just moved down from atlanta at a water filled course in boca. I played the front in 4 over with a painful double bogey on a par 3. Just as I was hitting a huge gust of win took what looked like would be a beautiful 7iron into the drink. I hit a poor second and the rest is history. The 4 over looked better than the score...I played the back in an ugly 8 over where I somehow lost the ability to hit my middle irons with any degree of accuracy. It was also quite a bit more windy, but mostly I just didn't hit the ball well.
Sunday, my H.S. golf team playing brother and law and I played a muni in st. augustine. (the wife was photographing a wedding...) Those winds that you saw at the players....yeah, I was playing in worse. It was a consistent 30-40 miles an hour the whole time. I hit a 5 iron into a 135 yrd green. I shot 94ish :whistling: much frustration and cursing at the golf gods.
Today I was back at home and played the same course as saturday. I shot a tidy 81 but didn't feel like I played great.

On a side note, I believe that I stated that I bought a used nvg2 off of ebay. Man, I have really been pounding that thing. I've hit several 315+ drives already and the best part is that I seem to have found my power fade once again, and the slice seems to be gone at least for now. That has allowed me to relax while hitting my other clubs perhaps just because of the psychological advantage of being in the fairway nearly every hole. Because of that, I hit a 3 wood off the fairway from 252 out to the back of the green...it was a great feeling. Golf is becoming much more fun again.
