The Golf Thread

I got a club reshafted today. I broke it on the course a few weeks back. It was the first club I ever bought about 15 years ago. A RAM 7 wood Zebra model. It is a cheapo club, but it had a bit of sentimental value to me. The guy at the pro shop put in a used Taylor Made Burner reg. flex 3 wood shaft. I cannot wait to see how far I can rope that club.

probably 160 yards

I took two days off to play this week. I got nine holes in (in the rain yesterday). Played it at six over. Considering the slippery clubs, the fact that this was my second time playing in ten months, and the fact that I was pushing everything right I will take it. Suprisingly the short game and the putter were working well.

The rain is still here so my excursion will likely be limited to golf already played.

If your generating enough club head speed to hit a 7 wood 200 yards, you need an x flex shaft instead of a regular flex

That's discouraging. Hopefully it will work out, if not I guess I could always use it to fish balls outta the water. :)

Can you explain? Is it because it is used?
because the spec shafts they use are really cheap and pulling it from another club probably made it worse.

200 is not an overly long 7 wood, but isn't the stuff of Regular Flex shafts either. You should probably look at some sort of decent new stiff shaft. Maybe an Aldila NV or NVS or UST ProForce V2. I think both have gotten fairly cheap.

I wish I had posted here before I decided to do this....

Fellow VolNationer's...I just discovered this golf forum today! I absolutely love to play, father is a superintendant at a course north of atlanta and I worked with him for 4 years. I shoot in the mid 80's on average, but hoping to work my way into the upper 70's by the end of the summer! Looking forward to spending some time in this forum!

GAVol is the resident guru.

I hit my 8 iron 160 and my 7 iron about 170, does that make me a beast?
You're either a beast or an exaggerator. :)

I'm probably slightly longer than average but I don't like to hit an 8 iron more than about 150. I can probably get it out there 155, but not if I actually want to know where it's going.

no.

I just feel an overwhelming need to razz someone who spends time talking about how 'long' they are. It's a very overrated aspect of the game and tends to drive me nuts.

I play with a guy who is an extremely good golfer, probably about a +4, and I am a good bit longer than he is, but he hands me my lunch just about every time we play. He is exceptionally consistent and putts extremely well. Those are the things I would brag about.

GaVOL, what part of Georgia are you from? Have you played any courses in or around Forsyth County?
I'm from Macon. I don't think I've ever played in Forsyth County. I've played in Gainesville, Canton, Waleska etc. I think Windermere in Cumming is one of the courses owned by the club I'm a member of, but I've never played it.

I don't consider myself either, ha. I get a very high trajectory with my irons, coming from my steeper swinging plane, adding some extra length to my irons. I'm really not all that long of a player off the tee, but I usually end up pretty well.
