You're either a beast or an exaggerator. :)

I'm probably slightly longer than average but I don't like to hit an 8 iron more than about 150. I can probably get it out there 155, but not if I actually want to know where it's going.
exactly. I can probably hit a flier 8 iron from light rough up to 200 yds and brag for days, as long as nobody asks where it ended up.

I'm from Macon. I don't think I've ever played in Forsyth County. I've played in Gainesville, Canton, Waleska etc. I think Windermere in Cumming is one of the courses owned by the club I'm a member of, but I've never played it.

I believe the company name that owns Windemere is Canongate. My brother is the 2nd assistant at Windemere. I have played it once.

In other words, you had that epiphany in your golf career where it dawned on you that you didn't receive bonus points for seeing how short a club you could hit into a particular green.

Yep, it's Canongate. I typically play River Forest in Forsyth or Healy Point in Macon. It's a pretty sweet deal effectively being a member of 19 golf courses.

I love playing against guys who like to talk about how short their club was into the long par 4s and par 5s.

I bet. Playing for my high school team the past 3 years I was fortunate enough to play several nice courses for free.

that's only because bill got his wedges straightened out

Hahahaha... Today was an all out nightmare. I couldn't read a putt to save my life, not to mention I ballooned a couple of shots and thanks to the wind they went everywhere.

Out of curiousity, what is a typical round for you BPV?

If I'm not mistaken GA said once he's a +2, or at least was at one point.

Who is the best golfer on VN?

If GA is a +2, he's probably the best (maybe Peay golf)
. I vacillate between a 0 and 2. Got to the + side for a while, but twins ended that little charade. My short game and long game rarely arrive at the course on the same day now, so I'll scrape something together in the mid 70s most days. Couple birdies, several pars, bogey here and there, and one disaster.

still pretty gosh darn good.

also, for what it's worth I hit my 7 iron 155 and my 8 145 and up to 150 if I'm really on it. Rarely ever try for that and just let the 7 iron go 150 though. Those numbers are with Ping i3 Blades (black dot) and several pros and club fitting specialists tell me I'll get more distance out of Callaways or TaylorMades. I love my i3s though. The Pings, at least older models used to be lofted a little more than others.

unless you're dead set on more iron distance, keep the ones that fit your eye and give the ball flight you want. Forget the distance, just keep the gaps between them manageable.

i don't know about who the best golfer is on VN, but i can tell you with 100% certainty who ISN'T. that would be this guy.

oh yeah, as of right now I have no desire to trade them in. I'm more than comfortable with my distances. Not bragging, but I feel my irons and their distance are above the normal golfer. Right now I have a club for everything 225 and in and as I told GA once, I have no reason going for the green if I'm further out than that.

I know you've said that you don't like the hybrids, but they can make a big difference outside 225 and are great for control from the tee. Buddy I play with from the Nationwide tour hits a 1i hybrid from Nickent and will opt for it over his 3 wood pretty often from the tee because he controls it much better. The distances aren't as predictable as irons, but they're good. My experience with them has been similar to his. I like the flight and the length. Caveat: I use an Aldila NV hybrid X (low penetrating flight shaft) in it so I avoid any potential for balloons.

I've thought about going to maybe a 1 or 2 iron hybrid, but I really am solid with my Adams original Tight Lies and I like playing 4 wedges.

You are mistaken. :ermm:probably the lowest I've ever been was a 1.2, but I don't play enough to get remotely close to that level now. Right now I'm a 4.9. If I play with any frequency I can play like a 2 and occasionally scare Par but having a 5 year old and a 6 month old has me to the point where as long as it's quiet and I break 80, I'm perfectly content.

can't argue with that, but the ease of hitting my 2H like a 7 iron keeps me happy.

fair enough. I think I'm more against the 3 and 4 iron hybrids than going to a 1 or 2 iron hybrid. I would take my 3 iron consistency against just about any casual amateur golfer. I get it out to about 210-215 so I'm sure there are some that are longer, but I'm very consistent with it whether I'm in the rough, fairway, uphill, downhill, etc.

Edit: Obviously the 210-215 is on a level fairway, but I'm still good from other parts of the course with it.

so i guess BPV is the best golfer on VN?

I just ditched my Taylor Made Rescue and stuck a 3 iron back in my bag. At least if I miss the 3 iron I know where it's going. If I hooked the bejeezue out of one more hybrid, I was going to need therapy.
