The GOP and Minority Rule

So did anyone actually read the article and engage with its arguments? There are huge problems facing American democracy and Republicans, in an attempt to maintain power in a shifting America, are doing everything they can to maintain their minority rule. This will not end well if the GOP keeps it up.

Yes, one party rule is a terrible idea as is rule based on popular vote. It would further alienate anyone not living in a large metropolitan area. The county would divide even further apart. I am sure you are genuinely concerned about the fate of the Republican Party

I agree. There was no evidence to be presented.
Their constitution spelled out the procedure for changing election laws. They didn’t follow them.
It should have been heard.

It’s obvious that you only care about the law when it benefits you. You’re going to be crying about how awful it is when the other side does it. I’m positive you were crying all those years ago when the Republicans did the same thing.

That’s one reason I rarely take you seriously.
And I’m done with you now.

My youngest daughter works as a policy analyst at the GA Capitol. She said there is a big movement this session among the republican majority to limit the powers of the the Governor (Kemp), but everyone secretly acknowledges that it is because they all believe Abrams will win in two years and they want to limit her powers as much as possible.

This is specifically addressed in the article (hence, why don't people engage with the arguments).

There would still be two parties -- but this is the important thing: If you remove the structural aspects that allow for minority rule, the party that was previously able to exercise minority rule MUST START TRYING TO APPEAL TO A MAJORITY. Right now, there is no attempt to do that by the GOP because they can exercise power with less than a majority. And if there is a "battle for the middle" both parties need to appeal to those in the middle, instead of just one. This would have a moderating effect on BOTH parties, which I think is a good thing.

Another great one. Never occured to me it was a retelling of the odyssey until I dated a classicist.
My wife clued me in the first time we watched it.
“This seems a lot like the odyssey”. Right after “we thought you was a tode”.

The 98th iteration of “this is the end of the [insert the party you don’t like] party”.

I used to think you were just an insufferable troll. Now I realize you really are an idiotic ideologue sheep.
This post 👆🏼really caught my attention. For several reasons.... 1. It’s obviously a true statement ..... 2. It’s out of character for you. You typically try to be diplomatic and courteous, but seeing you call EL an idiot sheep is like hearing your preacher curse

This whole analysis is the equivalent of getting tired of playing Monopoly and kicking the board and claiming victory. It's one thing to be frustrated by it. But to advocate for abolishing the fillibuster and Electoral College is just shortsighted.

Why is eliminating the filibuster shortsighted? The senate is already structured to prevent the "tyranny of the minority" because each state, regardless of size, gets 2 senators. Why then is the filibuster needed?

What would make Abrams a good governor for GA?

My wife and I love the movie, and the soundtrack. We got it with the Cyclopes.
The sirens were there. The cyclops. The blind prophet at the beginning. I think that it was just so steeped in Americana and the old South that I didn't put the clues together. Great film though. And fantastic music.
