The Harris Doctrine

Harris' thoughts and positions deserve their own thread, they may last through the election.

We are beginning to see the initial outlines of the Harris Doctrine- turning this country into Venezuela. Instead of fixing the root causes of inflation, government policy, Harris wants to fix prices by attacking price gouging.

Catherine Randall in the Washington Post writes...

“Price gouging” is the focus of Vice President Kamala Harris’s economic agenda, her presidential campaign says. She’ll crack down on “excessive prices” and “excessive corporate profits,” particularly for groceries.
So what level counts as “excessive,” you might ask? TBD, but Harris will ban it.

It’s hard to exaggerate how bad this policy is. It is, in all but name, a sweeping set of government-enforced price controls across every industry, not only food. Supply and demand would no longer determine prices or profit levels. Far-off Washington bureaucrats would. The FTC would be able to tell, say, a Kroger in Ohio the acceptable price it can charge for milk.

At best, this would lead to shortages, black markets and hoarding, among other distortions seen previous times countries tried to limit price growth by fiat."

Imagine being such a bad candidate that you could potentially lose to both Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. How is this the state of things in America?

Thankfully, there is a pretty good chance she won't be able to pull off anything like price-fixing groceries.

Kamala Harris claims she has a plan to solve the crisis she helped cause: inflation.

Under former President Trump, the inflation rate averaged 1.9%. It skyrocketed to 9.1% in 18 months under Joe Biden and Harris, fueled by a $5 trillion spending binge paid for by debt and printing money...

The centerpiece of the Harris plan is the imposition of federal price controls on “greedy corporations” she says are “price gouging” consumers. Landlords would be prohibited from raising rents more than 5% a year.

This represents a fundamental misunderstanding of how inflation works. Trump was doing things like conducting trade wars, raising tariffs, handing out free COVID $, pushing the fed to drop interest rates, restricting the labor force by reducing legal immigration*, etc....these are all practices that lead to inflation. It doesn't happen immediately, and he dropped the problem at Joe Biden's feet and now you're putting all on Biden when the truth is Biden was just doing what Trump did, more or less. Same trade status. COVID handouts. You can say Keystone Pipeline, but that wasn't a factor until 2023 (when it was supposed to be producing) and the inflation explosion clearly happened before 2023.

*His own chamber of commerce was reporting we needed another 1 million workers

Those dollars in 2020 were largely Covid relief and it was passed unanimously in Congress. How many things get passed unanimously? It was neither Republican or Democrat legislation. That's not on Trump any more than spending on WW II was on FDR

If we must look for blame, it should be noted that Trump's initial thought was a much more modest package:

There's not much Trump can do if Congress is unanimous in wanting to spend more money

As someone who had to follow it for work and whose spouse lobbied for inclusions into the bill, the Rs wanted to add a bunch of non COVID pork to the original framework and the only way the Ds got onboard after that was adding more pork. Trump let Mnunchin, Adelson, and Wynn negotiate/bill write on his behalf...

As leader of the R party, Trump could have pushed for a smaller bill but some of the pork the Rs added helped his business interests significantly...

All sides are to blame here

If we weren’t spending do much on immigrants once they get here, you’d have a point. But that likely cancels out any benefit received from the reduced labor due to the increased spending.

It shows how f*****d up and weak a large portion of society has been allowed to become.

And how bad does that make Hillary Clinton, where in a 4 person race between Kamala, Trump, Biden, and herself, she can't even make it onto the podium?

I'm telling y'all, nothing is going to change until people stop voting for this crap. I want to throat punch the people that condescendingly tell me "it's your civic duty to vote". It's not my fault these are the candidates we get.

The buck used to stop in the oval office.

And there is plenty of evidence showing FDR was angling to get us in WWII, so not sure that is the example you should use.

Actually they tell you that you must vote for one of the 2 parties

She has never said anything about price fixing, nothing. Only price freeze I know of was Nixon s

Fortunately for my middle-class employees, they'll have less to tax at her lower rates since my profitability bonuses will be bled dry by the repeal of the Trump corporate tax cuts and increase in corporate taxes.
You have a choice as to who to vote for. My sympathy only extends so far for you, although I do have some. A vote for anyone but Trump will ensure that the repeal of those tax cuts happens

it's not that he's a bad candidate. It's that the left is the party of hate, and it's all directed at him

Good! Temporary tax cuts are pandering. Tax cuts with increased spending is idiocy. Make real changes to the tax code if that's your intent

I'm not the one that needs convincing. And whether it's pandering or not, they do exist. They should be made permanent. Letting them expire is a big middle finger to working Americans

Didn’t want to get my pee pee smacked in the BB forum so brought this straight to the destination:

If you think there is a benefit to sit on the sidelines then you are mistaken.

You will argue this until you're blue or red in the face, but the fact of the matter is we have never seen this in the history of politics. Harris has no platform or shared policies. Mainstream media is the propaganda arm for the Democrat party. All of this must be destroyed in November if not they will do it over, and over, and over. Your perfect candidate won't matter unless said candidate is a leftist. If I was starting from scratch and didn't like either candidate, I would quickly realize the threat to our society is the the propaganda from the media. It is very dangerous since they are faking as a free and honest press.

Ok, give me a halfway decent candidate and I'll vote for them. Acting like Trump is some red white and blue savior is absurd. We've watched what he will do and it's simply not appealing to a country that needs to move forward

I'm not going to sit on the sidelines but I'm not going to vote for one of the main party candidates being forced on the voters. It will get worse if you accept these idiots as viable leadership choices. The last 2 elections prove that

There is only one party. The two party system has been a lie for quite sometime and it doesn't involve Trump.

As to the bold, there really is no one else.

If you really think that then it's clear you can't be convinced otherwise and you have a closed mind. They are attempting to railroad through Kamala Harris. There is a simple mindedness in this country that does not care about a single Kamala Harris policy. They will vote for her because she is black and/or a woman no matter how destructive her ideas are or how woefully inept she is. That would be ok with an honest press, but the press is the problem. The are gaining more power to be lying POS when we allow the lies, the deceit, the facts they don't tell, the unevenhandedness go unchallenged.

The democrat party is the real threat to democracy. You know yourself if the democrat party is accusing someone of something then they are in fact already doing it.
