The Headed To The DTG&B Postgame Report.

1. Given the surrounding circumstances, that's as big as regular season win as Tennessee has ever had. As winning Maui did for UCONN, that'll get at least some of the discussion back on what's happening on the floor.
2. Tennessee was spectacular in both games this week defensively. I'll be shocked if Corey Fisher is throttled like that at any other point this season.
3. The four guys who will have to carry the offensive load did so tonight. Harris, Hopson, Tatum, and Williams have to put up big numbers to mask the offensive deficiencies of their teammates.
4. Aside from an awful night from the field, Melvin Goins played his best game at Tennessee tonight. He had a huge challenge and met it.
5. It's great to get a tournament title after a long drought. Even better, I think the NIT might actually ask UT to come back in four years.
6. Villanova still has the same problem they did last season. They are absolutely dependent on their guards to score.
7. Yarou may eventually be the answer to that problem. Pinkston being cleared to play wouldn't hurt, either.
8. UCLA has serious, serious problems. Howland is going to wish he had actually taken the DePaul job.
9. I can't wait til the officials back off this ridiculous "by the book" style. There's no reason for every game to have 50 plus free throws.
10. There's now no excuse for Tennessee heading into conference play with more than one loss. Other than the game at Pitt, Tennessee is markedly better than everyone they play before SEC play tips off.

Good post, hatvol; agree with pretty much all of it.

On #10, we can probably expect one letdown game before conference play starts. Pretty much every team lets down once.

The one thing to prevent that might be that we rely on defense, not offense. Defense isn't so flaky.

One of the best defensive performances I have seen from a TN basketball squad...it was very fun to watch and I hope they play like this all season! Go VOLS!

Good analysis as well HV.

nice recap,
Missed the second half, glad we won

Go Vols

They can, but it'll be a tall order. Pitt won't get frustrated and start firing threes if you defend them tough. They'll just keep coming at you.
Okay, thanks. You think there's any chance Hopson actually plays to his potential and our more talented players step up by the end of the year? If so, UT should be able to make a really good run in the tournament.

They don't suck, but they have issues. They aren't better than we are. Nobody gave us much credit for Tobias and they were wrong. Nobody expected us to e able to pressure the ball because of our length and Golden addition. They were wrong.

Goins is the best waste of a scholarship PG ever.

I also think Maymon will be the best fat and lazy player at UT ever.

Not sure we are markedly better than UConn. I want to watch the Huskies play some more, but in the two games I saw they are pretty stinking good.

UConn and Memphis are games we could lose and not be embarrassed.

If Hopson can bring that consistently, we're going to be in the top 2 seeds.

So do you guys think Tennessee is the best in the SEC? Florida doesn't seem special and I haven't watched UK but I doubt they're getting Kanter back. It would be nice if we can also break our SEC tournament drought this year, too.

If the defensive intensity stays like it is now. Yes.

It'll be a toss up between UK and UT. I still wouldn't rule out Kanter being eligible. I like the defense, but I'll wait a few more games until I say it's for real.

Hope UGA isn't better than us; that's the game I have tix to. I've been thinking Tatum needed to step up like BW, and Scottie, and he seemed to do that tonight.

Goins has always shown flashes but has yet to maintain a reasonable level.

Maymon is an unknown. If his attitude and fitness from the past arrived in Knoxville, you'll be disappointed. Hopefully he's a world beater, but his size and skill set scream tweener.

Now Hat, you don't really think Pearl can outcoach Kevin O'Neill next month in TBA, do you?:)

I wish college kept track of +/-.
Scotty needs to continue driving and we will play better as a team.
Mcbee- Can't play defense, barely gets open (took NBA 3 in transition for his only make), and has no court vision.
Tatum- Played a great game, but needs to work on shot selection. I realize the amount he takes leads to him being hot, but I'd rather him take the shots at the end of the shot clock (instead of Goins) or driving to basket.
