The hire Al Golden Thread

Would be about as popular a hire as Dooley was.. Cheek should get the bulk of that 18 million back.. Shouldn't need that much to sign Golden.. That is unless Hamilton is brought back to do the contract negotiations..

We still need 9 million of that 18 million to cover the buyouts. Add in the 6-8 million for the new coach and staff(if not Gruden) and yeah, we are broke again! :eek:lol:

Maybe I misunderstood but in regards to the 18 mil, is that a one time deal or spread over 3 years or is 18 million being given each year for 3 years?

The whole being broke thing baffles me. I think Hart addressed this in his presser.

Have the new facilities been completely paid for? I think there are a lot of assumptions being made about the Universities athletic budget - how much money comes in and how it is spent.

6 million a year for the next 3 years. Spread out over the same term of the current buyouts. That is why I tend to think the 18 million was to help that more so than hire a new coach. 2 million in reserves is what makes us broke.

I was at the Miami v. Mich State game last night, Golden was there with his entire coaching staff, players and recruits rooting on the Canes basketball team. He didn't look like a guy who's leaving.

I was about to post something similar to this...A friend of mine works security for the Canes and he told me the exact same thing that Golden and his team and other coaches were there rooting hard for the Canes...I honestly do not think he is going anywhere....He seems to have really embraced Miami.

If he has embraced it and is happy there, why interview for the UT opening? Canes media has confirmed he WILL interview for the job. I understand the positioning yourself just in case, but Al Golden is in no way in danger of being fired at Miami. If he was happy, there would be no reason to rile up the fanbase by interviewing for another job. JMO

To get that raise man....Look what it did for Miles :whistling: Plus there is absolutely no proof he is even being interviewed, It's all hearsay

Maybe it is. Ainge did say this morning that the interview had been confirmed through the Miani AD. Miles did not interview. He was just made an offer and LSU bumped his salary to end the talk.

Where's the link to this?

I believe he's going to interview, hell, I'm a Dolphins fan and remember "I guess i have to say it, I will not be the Alabama coach." But I don't see him leaving. Golden was quoted 2 days ago in his press conference: "I know if I told my wife we're leaving Miami she'd cry."

Don't worry, we don't want him.

I agree. When you have the NCAA about to drop the hammer on you, Miami or not recruiting is going to suffer. I would note that Miami has 10 kids so far in this class and 5 of them are rated 4 stars. He has kids committed from OH, VA, LA, NJ, and of course FL. Goldens recruiting class last year rated #9 in the country.

Golden's a great recruiter. He beat out Florida for 5 star CB Tracy Howard, UGA/FL for 4 star DE Tyriq McCord and Alabama for 4 star LB Raphael Kirby all on signing day. When you're winning those battles on NSD with sanctions looming you're doing something right.

If Golden comes to Knoxville, just hope he brings TE Coach/Recruiting Coordinator Brennan Carroll; he's Pete Carroll's son and a great recruiter.

Haha, neither did we.

The Tennessee coaching search is eerily similar to the Miami search 2 years ago. We supposedly had Gruden signed.... then he started making "crazy demands" like millions for recruiting, and his brother as "Coach in Waiting" so he could bolt to the NFL at any time.

Then Miami ended up with Al Golden, who's not the best game day coach by any stretch but has been lightyears better than Randy Shannon in every other aspect.

Isn't there a rule that says you have to interview a certain number of candidates before making a hire or something? I think it's likely that is what is going on here.

We are talking about the same Golden who made some minor recruiting infractions in the wake of major sanctions? I guess anyone can bend the rules on NSD, win over some recruits, and look like a rock star?

That's some SEC recruiting is it not???

Well...I think that you would have to start a whole new thread on the SEC being known for dirty recruiting. I dont think I need to hijack this thread to discuss that topic. However I will say that the SEC is not the only conference nor do I think it is conference specific...several coaches practice the ol bend but dont break rule.

Golden gets caught doing the act and he comes from Miami. Plus we are on the other side of our NCAA penalties and investigations. Plus Hart even mentioned in his presser that he is looking for someone who can compliantly be the head coach.

I dont think it would be wise to hire Golden and re shift the spotlight back over to TN. I can see where Miami may think that this would be a good idea but no thank you....you guys can keep the NCAA spotlight. :whistling:

Oh yeah, not trying to hijack the thread for that, but basically the minor infraction is that when Golden got the job he had a short recruiting period and got in touch with locals who knew the high school scene; that included former equipment manager-turned-street-agent Sean Allen. Allen put Golden in touch with SoFl recruits then once Golden got word who Allen was he severed ties... this was after securing a few meetings with recruits via Allen. That's why it was only a secondary violation Golden got rid of the guy the minute he found out what was up.

There are no saints in the recruiting game, but this isn't a situation like Chizik straight paying for players.

Not that hard to get players like that in MIAMI :ermm: Warm year round, Hot women and the beaches.
