Biting my nails waiting for this one. It's been a long time coming. I always saw this movie coming before a lord of the rings movie and am shocked it is just now getting done. The fans are getting what they want too. Would have been interesting to see a Guillermo Del Torro rendition of a Middle Earth tale but Peter Jackson offers continuity that may have been missed.

I found a first edition of this in my grand mothers attic when I was 9 or 10 years old. I have always thought this should be a movie and have waited sense first hearing about the lord of the rings trilogy. I knew after the success of the first in the series that it would be a matter of time. Excited......YES.

Legolas doesn't appear in the book, but I think he may have been part of the Battle of Dol Guldur, which drove Sauron (or the shadow of him) out of Mirkwood.

It's going to be two parts because Jackson is smart and knows he can't be quick about the Battle of 5 Armies.

They are making it in 2 parts so you have to pay to see the entire movie twice. It has nothing to do with keeping it like the book.

there making it two parts because there's no way you can make the book in anything less than a 5 hour movie.

Whatever you need to tell yourself. It's the same reason they released 3-4 different versions of LOTR with each one being longer than the previous one. They are going to squeeze as much money out of you as they can.

have you ever even looked at the book, let alone read it? There's no way you can make one movie out of the Hobbit, just like you couldn't take the six books that made up the LOTR and make them into one movie. It was hard enough with lots of stuff omitted just to make them into 3.

Yeah, I've read it. It could easily be a 3 hour movie. They problem is that people forget that its a different medium and get all butthurt when they cut a scene out of the movie that was in the book. The LOTR books were released as a trilogy so it makes sense to do the movies that way. The Hobbit can't be much more than 300 pages. Anything they give to middle school students to read doesn't warrant a 2 movie adaption by either length or complexity. Its. A. Childrens. Book.
