The Hobbit

I was fine with leaving out Tom Bombadil (the movie teetered on the homoerotic side enough as is), but skipping the Scouring of the Shire came dangerously close to destroying the whole Trilogy for me. That and screwing up the personalities of the Ents. That part blew my mind completely. I still fast forward through the Ent parts except for their destruction of Saruman.

I read LOTR when I was like 15 and I don't remember enough to know the Tom Bombadil story (though the name immediately rang a bell). The Ents are horribly boring and I don't remember them being that way. I too fast forward that part as well as the parts with the ghost army on the 3rd.

Now that I think about it, I was really disappointed that Jackson added in the part where Frodo banishes Sam because Sam never trusts Gollum.

I don't have a problem with long movies as long as it's interesting and relevant to the story. Godfather is the perfect example. King Kong and LOTR are perfect examples of movies that are ruined by length. The original King Kong was 56 minutes and Jackson made that one into a 3 hour flick.

I felt like LOTR movies got progressively worse (though I still like them all) and they got progressively longer.

I totally disagree. The LOTR movies are the perfect example of how TO do long movies. The extended versions are the only way to go IMHO.

King Kong sucked because it wasn't a very good movie.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey - Rotten Tomatoes

why are Frodo and Galadriel going to appear in this movie? Frodo had yet to be born.

I'm still looking forward to the movie, but Peter Jackson's meddling with the storyline is starting to aggravate.

My thinking is to basically tie them into the LOTR trilogy moreso, though you'd think the characters of Bilbo (albeit a younger actor), Gollum, Gandalf, and Elrond would be enough. He's still taking a lot of liberties though. Plus Legolas is getting a small part. I"m guessing Frodo is going to be some part where the older Bilbo is telling him the story or something.

Heck bring the whole crew, have Aragorn drop by with Samwise and they all drink tea together.

Man I feel old, it's hard to believe this year will be 10 years ago that Fellowship was released.

I really hope he doesn't screw this up. I've been waiting for them to make decent Hobbit movie since reading the book and seeing the cartoon.

This is actually pretty decent, if you're a Tolkein nerd.

Looks great, I didn't know Gandalf had a thing with a certain elf, though...

Galadriel was responsible for making him Gandalf the White and she had great power in the Silmarillion but had absolutely nothing to do with the Hobbit. I'm going to be pissed if she plays some sort of important role in this film. Jackson omitted a lot of stuff and made the Ents boring, but he never really just made stuff up in the LOTR, why would he start now?

That was kind of my point, it's been awhile since I read The Hobbit, but I don't recall her even being mentioned.

Elendil is my favorite lotr character and to cameo him and gilgalad in fellowship was terrible. Thet killed sauron, not freak boy Isildur
