Now we just THE Ohio State University to get upset by UCSB...yeah right...the only decent teams they played beat them fairly handily. We match up best with Ga. Tech. Can they get through?

UT should count itself very fortunate. Favorites (i.e. better seeds) are only 8-7 today and Montana is giving New Mexico all they want.
Wow...shocking stat. Look at how many of those favorites nearly didn't advance (us, Nova, New Mexico, and BYU).

Hopefully the Big Orange isn't feeling lucky or glad it wasn't effort that beat SDSU.

hat, what does your opening day bracket look like? just curious
Actually didn't bother to fill one out this year. The only real shocker to me is how awful Georgetown was. Notre Dame has serious offensive problems, thus I wasn't shocked they lost.

If there's one thing I learned about this years team, it's that the performance given one night has nothing to do with what you see later.

True, but historically UT's play in the NCAAT usually does carry over to the next game, especially under Pearl.

Georgetown destroyed my bracket, but since it should benefit UT barring epic failure on Saturday, I'm OK with that.

decent game...we have a shot in 2nd round...good shot if we can find a rhythm and a player named scotty.. maze and melvin played well and jp is proving he is good ball player that just makes stupid plays from time to time.
if these guys get to 16 or past then no doubt this is CBP best coaching job with all the crap that has gone on

Man, what an awesome day of basketball. Florida = gone. Georgetown = gone. Notre Dame = Gone. Texas = Gone.

Tennessee - Ohio is much more comforting. I know they'll give us a game, but I feel a lot better about that game then I did about Georgetown.

I went 13/16 today. I'm pretty happy about that. Called everything except UTEP, UNLV, and Marquette losing.

Tomorrow, I'm calling some pretty big upsets. I have Cornell over Temple and I have New Mexico State over Michigan St. We will see!

GO VOLS, way to tough it out. Talent wins games, but mental strength and toughness wins championships. We're gonna need a lot of that.

Hat, as always I enjoy your recaps. Whew....what a stressful game. But we survived and move on. Goins really stepped up.

1. Great win against a game opponent. Now it's time to focus on Ohio.
2. There will only be 48 teams left after tonight. Tennessee is one of them.
3. Melvin Goins elevated his game at the right time. That last 3 will live forever in UT lore.
4. Brian Williams hitting clutch free throws was a minor miracle. That's what it takes in March.
5. Fouling 3 point shooters seems to be something this team can't get out of their system. It's going to eventually cost them a game.
6. Wayne Chism gets another game in a UT uniform. That's a very good thing.
7. JTIII has some soulsearching to do. When your team no shows the NCAAs, there's a systemic problem.
8. Great win for Old Dominion. Blaine Taylor deserves the exposure.
9. Seton Hall should hire Mike Rice immediately. He's ready for the Big East.
10. Any day Vanderbilt and Notre Dame are eliminated from the NCAA Tournament is a good one. Good riddance to Luke Harangoofy.

Extensive damage almost occurred in my living room when this happened.

I wouldn't consider Cornell winning a big upset. They are wildly underseeded.

1. If you had told me the game Hopson, Chism, and Tatum would have, and that we would win, I would have mocked you.

2. Goins was monster. He absolutely shut me up with the game he had today with how much crap I gave him when he signed with us. What an awesome game by him.

3. Williams FT's late were huge...but man, he has got to finish near the rim. Just finish strong.

4. Maze played efficient. He did a very good job.

5. Why McBee saw extensive action today is beyond me. Tatum, Goins, Hopson, Maze, and Prince should be the only backcourts players on the court Saturday unless there is a blowout.

6. That Goins foul was cheap. You can't make that call late in that kind of game.

7. Chism being clutch with those FT's. With him and Maze, I'm not worried late in the game with those guys at the line.

8. Jimmy Fredette can absolutely play. That kid is amazing. JT3 is starting not to look like that great of a coach. Donovan better have a better year next year. Scottie Reynolds has got to figure out what's wrong. I was disappointed in New Mexico.

9. The first day today was absolutely awesome. It showed that this year is one of the most open years you will find in Tourney history. It seems like anyone can win it almost.

10. Tennessee should beat Ohio. There is no excuse not to win Saturday. Tennessee beat a very solid SDSU team. That is a very good team Fischer has. I also thought something was interesting today. The thing that killed us last year in the Tourney (half-court defense) was the thing that saved us today. Our D was very impressive.

If NUI doesn't make a lucky shot, Texas could hit FT's, and G'Town decided to play D, I would have had a perfect day. Alas.
