The Impeachment Thread

Barr will save us the trouble of all that bothersome reading by releasing a handy summary of the call.
Why go to that trouble?

This is the administration that, off the top of my head, doctors weather maps and inauguration crowd photos, threatens to fire meteorologists for accurately predicting hurricanes, tried to get Don McGhan to falsify documents, released doctored videos at least twice, and admitted that they lied about FBI agents complaining about Comey.

I have no idea if there was a quid pro quo. But really, what’s to stop them from just releasing a doctored transcript?

Two things stand out here:

(1) Money can buy your way into Yale; and
(2) The pure sex appeal of Mnuchin. No way is his wife a golddigger.

This story isn't going away until the Inspector General, Michael Atkinson, is allowed to brief Congress on the substance of the "whistleblower's" complaint against Donald Trump, for his phone call to the Ukrainian President Zelensky. Trump can deny that there was any "quid-pro-quo" all he wants, Congress needs to know whether or not that is what the "whistleblower" is alleging. This person in the intelligence community who filed the complaint against Trump with the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, was clearly privy to the phone call in question.

It identified a big weakness in Biden too, though. Their campaign should have been ready for this. Giuliani going to Ukraine broke even before he got in the campaign, didn’t it?

Trump is flailing like a cockroach and Biden’s response has been pretty uninspired. I know he’s trying to be the white knight and I like that about him, but you still gotta use the sword sometimes.

If this is an audition to face Trump in the general, Biden doesn’t look too good for the role so far.

Between this and the Iowa polls coming out, this feels like a pick six before the half.

May end up being two big wins for the democrats if it weakens trump and helps them identify the best candidate.

I agree. Biden somehow is on the defensive about this. Fox News' fact checking department even says there is nothing to Trump's claims about Biden and his son. That was on today. Yet, the vague conspiracy theory announced by Trump and his minions might be enough for him to once again escape the corruption he has shown yet again.

It worked for him in the 1st election, it might work again. Biden should be out there bashing Trump for once again inviting foreign influence into an election for his own benefit. It should be talked about over and over and over again. Biden should be pleading with the voters to get rid of the swampiest swamp creature of all time.

Dump Trump. Let's get some integrity back in the White House.

The case may end up being circumstantial. Trump holds up the aid package, tells the Ukrainian leadership shortly after that 8 times in one call to open up the investigation of a rival. That would be more than enough to get to a jury in a criminal trial.

I don't think anyone would believe that was just a coincidence.

If that is what happened? That is felony bribery (in other words, a high crime committed while in office and an impeachable offense). Again, we just need the House Intelligence Committee to be briefed (in private, of course) as to the substance of this "whistleblower's" complaint, which was filed with the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. This is starting to look bad for Trump.

Why don't you use the old democrat standby and say "if true"
ETA: Do you guys really think that Trump is going to "bribe" another national leader knowing that his conversation is being recorded and listened to by several people?

Yes, that's a given. Like I said, the House Intelligence Committee should be briefed on the substance of the "whistleblower's" complaint. We have heard in various reports that Trump "promised" Zelensky something in return for investigating Hunter Biden. What was it? Everything hinges on that.

Trump's comments since, and those of Giuliani, certainly seem to lend credence to it. No denial. In fact just defiance that it was okay and it is somehow wrong of the whistleblower to file a report about his concerns.

This will end up playing out like all of your other conspiracy theories, great press for a couple of days and then a big nothing burger at the end.

Trump Didn’t Bribe Ukraine. It’s Actually Worse Than That.

I think he makes a good point. Relying on the criminal definition as an analog for acceptable presidential conduct was a mistake previously because it was confusing.

That is possible but the longer that the Trump Administration/Department of Justice blocks the Inspector General, Michael Atkinson, from briefing the House Intelligence Committee on the substance of the "whistleblower's" complaint? The more it will give the appearance that this "whistleblower" has alleged that Donald Trump promised the Ukrainian President Zelensky something in exchange for investigating Hunter Biden.

It's more than just confusing. It's generally not applicable/or criminal under statute. As the article stated, the only clear recourse is impeachment.

Let's get the party started.

Trump narrowly escaped justice on the Russia cooperation in the 2016 election. All that did was embolden him to do it again, it seems. Enough is enough. He clearly has no concept of his role as President, not as just operating a scheme to help himself.

So you have been saying since the day he was elected. Your credibility is less than zero.

Well, if its true then he should be impeached, imo.
What do you think about Biden and his interference between the US and the Ukraine over the prosecution of his baby boy? You democrats are so freaking corrupt, but you can't stand it when you get caught with your kids hand in the candy jar.

Agreed. Not to toot my own horn, but I’ve been making this argument since May. Mariotti stole it from me. Derivative ************.

Criminal conduct is supposed to be generally agreed upon as unacceptable so it’s tempting to try to describe Trump’s conduct as criminal. But his apologists just turn that into “total exoneration” when he can’t be indicted because of a technicality. No need to fall back into that same routine, especially since, this time, it doesn’t actually fit.

It would be a problem if it’s true. Do you have any link that shows there was even an investigation into Hunter Biden?

Everything that has been posted here says it didn’t happen. Including the director of the Ukrainian version of the FBI.

The Trump apologists will follow his lead, and try to shift the narrative to Joe Biden. However, even assuming that Hunter Biden was guilty of some form of corruption and his father, while Vice President, covered it up and took illegal measures to disrupt an investigation, that would not excuse this (alleged) conduct from Trump.
