The Impeachment Thread

March 2016 Viktor Shokin is fired as prosecutor general, Ukraine's most senior law enforcement position.
The circumstances surrounding Shokin's 2016 dismissal have become central to the debate in 2019 over whether the vice president inappropriately called for Shokin to be fired.
In an interview with ABC News in April 2019, Shokin said he believed Biden pressured the government to fire him because he was leading an investigation into Burisma.

Jan. 23, 2018 During an appearance at the Council on Foreign Relations, the former vice president touted his record of fighting corruption by boasting about his threat to withhold a billion dollar U.S. loan guarantee to Kiev if Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko failed to "take action against the state prosecutor" -- referring to Shokin.
"'I'm going to be leaving here in six hours,'" Biden recalled telling Poroshenko. "'If the prosecutor's not fired, you're not getting the money.' Well, son of a bitch, he got fired."

Why would the State Department send Giuliani on a mission to Ukraine? Aren't there people in the State Department who are paid to do this kind of thing?

BS. You did not read one article I posted. These go back years.
Whatever.
I don't know if I read every article you posted about this. But I've read a lot, and it looks like Biden is in the clear. I don't care one way or the other. If Biden did something inappropriate or illegal, nail his ass. But there is nothing to this imo.

I'm not blind. There is just nothing to this that you guys want there to be regarding Biden. It has been shown false by numerous outlets and governments. I'm no fan of Biden, btw. But this all out assault on him is akin to the attacks over the last three decades on Clinton and Obama. Based on nothing but because he is the presumed front-runner for the nomination.

Lmao 😂. How ironic!

It wouldn't justify Trump's actions if Joe Biden had done something illegal. Everything here points to Trump withholding military aid from the Ukraine, but then offering to unfreeze it, in his July phone call with Ukrainian President Zelensky, in exchange for Zelensky agreeing to assist with Rudy Giuliani's investigation of Hunter Biden. That is "quid-pro-quo".

Bc Shokin is a proven, internationally known, scum bag. And he said it was his opinion. His opinion is as worthless as he is.

OK...

How convenient:

Biden refuses to answer questions about his son's foreign business dealings

Just months before, in December of 2013, there was a similar episode when the then-vice president led an Obama administration effort to tamp down tensions in the Far East. Hunter Biden disembarked from Air Force Two in Beijing alongside his father, ahead of a series of meetings between the vice president and several high-ranking members of China's ruling party. Upon his departure, Joe Biden called Chinese President Xi Jinping a "good friend."

Within weeks of that visit, Hunter Biden was doing business there, as a participant in a firm called Bohai Harvest RST. The corporation formed a novel Chinese-American investment partnership that involved such Chinese state-owned firms as the Bank of China. Reports at the time said they sought to raise $1.5 billion.

I wasn't trying to say one thing justifies the other. We agree on this.

I am already on the record as saying throw both Trump and Biden in jail if warranted. Investigate them both. I will need to read more into this one. You good with the investigation going forward with Trump on this?

You do not believe Soykin, but even the President of Ukraine said there was no quid pro quo. Yet he is guilty as hell by you guys.
An investigation is premature atp. I say let the transcripts rip as I said the other day.
I notice how you say "investigation going forward with Trump". What about an investigation of Biden..you up for that?

Exactly what rational people look for in a leader, the ability to troll the people they leads... It fascinates me that you'd foist this to be a virtue. Either your bar is set really low or your just a low-rent person.

I'm curious, do you really believe the nonsense you spew or is this the safe space your psyche retreats to in order for you to cope with Trump being a top shelf P.O.S.?

Trump is better than any Commie with a D next to their name. That includes you turd tank.

Did my comment “investigate them both” confuse you? I am good if the transcripts
are released.

No worries. For the record I believe 95% of our elected officials, on the national level, probably deserve to be locked up. My issues is with this belief among Trump supporters that he’s different. He is as swampy and evil as the rest. Gives zero ***** about you or me. Same as his predecessors. Plus I think he’s a giant fake tough guy.

Well maybe now you can sympathize with the conservative idea of smaller government. They are all a bunch of crooks.
Lunacy to me is to vote for someone who has been a part of the problem for decades and railing against the system they are a part of and policies they helped create.

I am a conservative. Yet I continue to watch conservatives be fine with deficit expansion under “our” elected guys. Crooks everyone of them. At least the Dems don’t hide the fact that they plan on blowing us up into fiscal hell. I washed my hands of trump the moment he had no problem growing the deficit. Liar scumbag just like the rest.

The political discourse in this country has been reduced to tribalism. Policies and ideology don't matter nearly as much as party affiliation.

100% correct. It’s shameful and disgusting. Say what you will do and do what you say. It’s not difficult. Now I know everyone will say issues with Congress/Senate. Both Obama and Trump controlled both houses at some point in their term.

Check out the reactions of these Republicans. Strongly worded is an understatement. If Trump did, in fact, attempt to extort Zelensky, the road to impeachment through the Senate may actually happen. Start the YGHNs!!!:D:D:D

Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), the vice chairwoman of the Senate Republican Conference who faces a potentially competitive election next year, said the appropriate path is to task the Intelligence Committee with getting to the bottom of the controversy.

“I just think all this needs to go to the Intel Committee and needs to be sorted out,” she said.

Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine), a member of the Intelligence Committee, said it’s “important and appropriate” that the intelligence community’s inspector general brief the Senate and House committees.

“The law is clear that if the inspector general of the intelligence community receives a whistleblower complaint that the IG [inspector general] deems is urgent that that is to be reported to the leaders of the Intelligence committees,” she said.

GOP senators including Sen. Mitt Romney (Utah) and Pat Toomey (Pa.) are warning that Trump would have acted improperly if he in fact pressured Zelensky to investigate Biden, who is leading the Democratic field of presidential contenders.

“If the President asked or pressured Ukraine’s president to investigate his political rival, either directly or through his personal attorney, it would be troubling in the extreme. Critical for the facts to come out,” Romney, a Trump critic, tweeted Sunday. Romney said Monday that the transcript of Trump’s call with Zelensky should be released.

Toomey on Sunday said on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that it is “not appropriate” for a candidate to ask a foreign leader for assistance.

Rep. Adam Kinzinger (Ill.), a Republican member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said Monday that it would be “highly inappropriate” if Trump directed a foreign leader to investigate a rival politician.

“It’s absolutely highly inappropriate what President Trump did, and I don’t care about the Biden arguments, I, you know, that’s important, and we need to get to the bottom of it,” Kinzinger said on the “Guy Benson Show.”

Hard for them to get dishonorably discharged while they were busy sending jobs overseas and overseeing failing companies, until Daddy swept in with a nepotistic fervor and gave them some semblance of importance beyond being his trash kids. Now they can be his trash kids and ineffective members of state. Kudos to them for following in Daddy's footsteps.
TDS much?

Anybody betting the under on the number of people in this thread who agree with all of the following statements?

A. The president is totally justified in soliciting the investigation of his political opponents because the president has or should have that authority and also because Joe Biden is clearly dirty?”

B. the patriot act was a good idea to combat Islamic terrorism?

C. Obama should have been impeached for using the patriot act to spy on Donald Trump?
