The Jarrett Guarantano debate thread...

Thats the point. He had 5+ seconds in the pocket, and still ate a sack. He could have tucked it and ran, or at the very least thrown it away, but he struggles to think quickly and decisively, and he often struggles to see the full field.

How many times last season did we hear the announces say something along the lines of, "...JG wishes he had that one back, <insert receiver> was wide open waving his arms on the other side of the field... "?

Those issues are not caused by the oline. Even with a 100% increase in the offensive line performance in 2019, we will still struggle offensively if JG doesn't also significantly improve as well.
They said that a couple of times out of the over 300 hits he had last year.

No one has ever said the line was responsible for every single sack. But like Eric Ainge even says the line is responsiblefor about 90% of them.

So yea you can find a play or two he holds the ball too long. Every single qb has a few of those plays.

Feel free to quote Ainge on his film study. You can watch every one of JG`s snaps against Georgia and see that the oline protection is not wholly or even 90% responsible for his issues as a passer.

As a passer? What makes you to believe he's not good as a passer? One of the higher completion percentages and QBr in the country. He sure isnt responsible for throwing any games away

His issues with taking sacks that he doesn't need to take because he holds the ball too long, and fails to see open receivers on a consistent basis, are his passing issues. You can split hairs and call them "mental mistakes" if it makes you feel better.

If he has more than .001 seconds to throw the ball, yes.
You mean to throw it long or out of bounds?

The answer to the OP....No. JG hasn't shown me anything that tells me he is better than a middle of the pack MAC QB.
If he is the starter all year, then 7 wins is the cap.

Do you guys remember how bad everyone said Ainge was before Cutcliff came back? What about the QB battle that Crompton won? Do you guys remember how everyone was negative toward him but yet he performed stellar? Amazing what a competent coach can do for a kid.

So now JG has a Cutcliffe quality QB coach? OK, didn't realize we were playing the ifs and buts game.

We already quoted PFF. He was the second best qb according to them. They rate every player on every play. They subtract or give points for the actual individual performance. He was very highly rated. The linemen not so much. He did his job most of the time. Others didn't.

Go listen to the Ainge podcasts. He pumps up JG all the time.

The first play of the season he about got his head decapitated.....but I guess that was JGs lack of awareness right?
How dense are you?

I have said the OL was a problem. I have said that JG also had issues that contributed. Both... not either/or. But then again if you dealt with what I am actually saying... you wouldn't be able to. So the first thing you have to do is demand that I say it is either all the OL or all JG. Sorry... no.

It easy for the defense to pin there ears back and blitz cuz they know the O-line struggled mightily in pass protection last year .
And because JG couldn't do good pre-snap reads or hit hot receivers... and because JG didn't move in the pocket well... and because JG almost never threw to the short middle behind blitzing LB's...

Again. Not either/or. The OL had issues though not as bad as you want to pretend in pass pro. JG had issues and much more significant than what you want to pretend.

When given time JG can make some plays AKA the Auburn game. I know I'm the only one to see this. The lack of a consistent run game didn't help as well.

And there were times when the OL held up well. There were times when the OL didn't do well... and times when JG didn't do well. Both have to improve for UT to be better offensively. JG MUST learn to read D's and get the ball out on time. No QB anywhere gets all day to throw on every play.

So show me where the oline was good at anything? oh, i get it. this is where you circle back around to the qb not telling them who to block right?
If you are really that determined to be blind then there's really no helping you. You can go watch games yourself... and if you are honest at all... you'll see that the OL was decent at pass protection much of the time. JG too often holds the ball too long.
so on runs when they miss blocks, they're not good run blockers. on passes when they whiff on blocks, the qb....only being JG.....didnt get them in the right call.
You've never blocked anyone, have you? There is a BIG difference between pass blocking and run blocking. An OL CAN be good at one and bad at the other. That's just reality.

I love how the doubters know so much more than Pruitt and Co. Even now Chaney.
You mean the part when they said JG's decision making had to speed up? You mean JG's comment that Chaney is going to expect him to hit hot routes?

I haven't suggested I know more than they do. I haven't suggested the OL was good. I've agreed with them that both JG and the OL have weaknesses that contributed to the poor offensive performance last year. It is folks like you who only want to hear them say "the OL sucks"... then block out everything else.

yeah, them not being able to run block is the qbs fault. un-phukin-believable
You understand that football is a complimentary game BOTH WAYS, right? You major on it being the OL's fault that JG wasn't more effective... but don't understand how having a QB that can work the middle of the field helps OL's run block better? You don't understand how a QB who makes correct line calls helps OL's? You don't understand that a QB has a management role in the run game?

But FTR... that wasn't even the point. The point is that an OL can be good at one and not the other. Run blocking and pass blocking involve some different skill sets. Some OL's master both but some do not.

Dobbs line was NOT worse than JGs by any means. Dobbs oline allowed us to run the ball effectively while this oline has not
Dobbs OL was not good. Dobbs as a threat to run helped the run game, OL, and RB's.

However, no one should expect JG to be Dobbs. He just has to learn to be effective with HIS skill set. IMO, he throws the ball MUCH better than Dobbs. He just needs to learn reads and timing and speed up his decisions.

Didn't JG come out and say he was not allowed to change plays at line of scrimmage under Helton...now he has more free range under chaney. I would bet we would see a huge difference this year

Oh, so we are taking my post and twisting the words in it and making those words read completely out of context so that there can be an arguement that I said or stated the new coach is equivalent to David Cutcliff? Wow, I did not realize that is what I stated.

What is your interpretation about Kiffin in my post?

Thats now how this works hoss. However, you don't need anti JG articles when you have stats, real, tangible stats.. And no..I'm not talking about "big time throws" (lol) or weighted time of possession during a harvest moon while Jupiter and its moons are visible... 4-8 and 5-7 ring a bell? Sub .500 career. Average 0.8 TD a game career.

Literally had a total of 23 passing touchdowns all 4 years of high school like wtf that alone is proof👀😭😂😂😂

bad passes and reads usually result in interceptions. how many has he thrown btw? and then there are those drops that would increase already decent numbers. but you're right.

You’re seriously defending a qb that had a total of 4 touchdowns in 1 season and 12 the next, sure! that’s improvement but nothing close to being enough to win games which matters the most, not stats.if you combine 2 years worth of the football games being played on the schedule he’s literally average less than 1 touchdown per game👀😭😂😂

Coming from a qb that never had to run out of the pocket or ever experience what a bad o line feels like,I’ll take someone else’s opinion.JG is not the answer and you’ll see it again for a 3rd straight year

as a freshman and a sophomore.....nope. with 2 different coordinators/ staffs.....nope. with the worst line prolly east of the mississippi......nope. nah, none of that stuff factors in. another low football iq guy

which year bub? because when worley was back there, he had time and the running game worked. worley stunk it up and dobbs replaced him. that unit of stone and co is still playing in the nfl. facts

and to top that off, dobbs wasnt a very good passer so who was worried about down the field throws with him? meaning teams could crowd the box, yet we still ran.

so since the qb couldnt make the calls as JG said, then what? or you got a made-up answer for that too? and JG completed passes over the middle, yet they still blocked horribly. but u got an excuse in JGs direction for that too huh?
