The Knechtion

Just watched DK hit the last two shots of the second half to send game to OT. 12 pts. in 4Q. I think I may start watching the NBA again. Reggie Miller really impressed with DK.

Just hit his first 3 attempt of OT. Another 3! 30 pts., has last 19 Lakers pts.!!! Laker pt. guard seems to be trying to get the spotlight on himself and avoiding Knecht. But, Reddick designed inbounds play to feed DK and he knocks down another 3. Then gets a deuce. Now has last 22 Lakers pts. I never thought I would see the day, but I think I'm now a Lakers fan. Teammates mobbed him after the game.

Why didn't the Celtics draft him?
Too old. Nobody wants 40pts from a 24yo rookie ya know.

Knecht's shooting ability reminds me of Pete Maravich or Jerry West,
Interesting choices.. I dont see either of them as shooters like in today's game they shot almost exclusively mid range hence their gaudy shooting percentages. Jerry West retired before the 3 and Marachich only played 1 year with it he only attempted 0.3 or once every 3 games which works out to 9/12 pretty small sample size. Overall shooting percentages have dropped a lot since the 3 point line was introduced so comparing shooting number for guys before the mid 80's vs guys after is kinda hard. it took a while for the idea of volume 3 point shooting to become a thing and the volumes we see these days is sort of insane compared to even the 90's or early 2000's

DK reminds me of Dan Marjerle. Good ole thunder Dan, the Phoenix version.

You ain’t kidding. I’ve watched more NBA this year just to see DK, I turn one game off a little early and I miss his best performance. I was so pissed when I woke up and saw a text from my friend about it and I thought to myself how much I regretted not staying up lol.
Do you stream on Youtube TV? I lucked out to be watching last night but I just set all Lakers games to record this season. So in the future I can play the game or just the spot when I miss something. I do it for the big three Vols teams, of course. There are prolly other services that offer the same option. Idk.

That's an appropriate comparison. I think Knecht MIGHT have an "it" factor Marjerle didn't have in the league. He was a great player, made big shots and played great D, but didn't have the skill to take a game over offensively

Knecht isn’t just a spot-up three shooter. He can handle the ball, create, shoot the mid-range and finish at the rim. Very athletic.

I don’t really know who to compare him to.

A quicker Luka Doncic? Certainly not the comple offensive player as Doncic, but similar and quicker

Neither was Thunder Dan. He was a 3 level scorer. Look at this and tell me if someone sent it and said it was DK taken with a bad camera you wouldn't believe it? Majerle 6'6 222 DK 6'6 215 they are a cheeseburger removed from each other. Both from small nondescript cities in the far north. Both went to homestate directional universities. Both put up very similar Stats in college. Marjele shot a bit better from 3 but on lower volume (the 3 pointer was added to college his last 2 years (86-87 and 87-88). Same haircut even. If DK were te be interviewed and asked I would bet big money he was compared to him a lot growing up.

I was a lakers fan with Kobe and Shaq and then Kobe. Started liking Golden State with Steph just the way the dude is as a person (from what we can see anyway)… but always liked the Lakers as a team even when they suck. I just don’t care for LeBron and that makes it hard to root for them but not Dalton is there, Lets go Lakers!

It does seem Lakers are looking a lot like they did with Shaq and Kobe there… they have 3 pointer shooter and they just need AD to actually be AD and I think they will make some noise.

I’m a Mavs fan. Definitely some similarities, but definitely different.

However, we just need to see how DK develops and translates to this level. He’s in better shape, quicker, more explosive and more athletic than Luka. But Luka is a unicorn…hard to understand how he is so great TBH. Same as Jokic.

I’d like to circle back and have this discussion in 3-5 years. DK has a ways to go to even be in the conversation. I’ll be watching. I think he might have a very, very high ceiling.

Definitely some similarities. Not going to argue against it.

Manu, but even a better shooter

I listened to the whole JJ Reddick press conference, just now. JJ said Dalton played for Rick Barnes and he is a tough coach, which leads to Dalton being mentally tough, coachable and wants to learn to become a great player

Thats a weird headline....anyone thats an NBA fan and even more a Lakers fan know who the lakers first-round pick is. only casuals are obsessed with Bronny. NVM they measured him in meters instead of freedom units its a Spanish media company that did that article, they get a pass.
Yeah, that’s a low quality article. The author twice referred to the team as the Los Angeles Angels.

I went down the Dalton rabbit hole, tonight. Watched mad videos and Reggie Miller hugging and telling Dalton, "Shooters, Shoot" , may be my favorite. Of course, Snoop giving Dalton the "Westside Knecht" nickname and saying, "you better recognize game, when it's in your face", is a close 2nd.

Excellent comparison. They even move alike. Loved to watch Majerle. I remember Thunder Dan as a high flying, rim-attacking demon, not a great 3-pt. shooter. He did shoot just a shade over 35% from 3 for his career, which is pretty good, but averaged only 4 3-pt. attempts per game. While a very athletic rim-attacker, I think DK will shoot near 40% from 3, and attempt more than 7 3's/gm. making him more of a 3 pt. threat than Thunder Dan. Time will tell.
