The LSU Postgame Report

Seems like I read a while back that SEC wasn't going to allow it any longer for transferring in. For example, John fields would not have been allowed to play at UT under that rule. But it is allowed in other conferences. For example, swiperboy this year.

Not 100% sure it is now a rule but I do remember it was on the table. I believe it came up after the QB massoli transferred to ole miss after getting kicked off at Oregon. He was able to transfer without penalty because he had a degree. Same as fields. Not sure if swiperboy had a degree.

Julius Mays just transferred to UK this year for his final year of eligibility.

And Alex Oriakhi to Missouri from Uconn.

Correct, but wasn't his transfer allowed because of UCONN's postseason ban from the tournament this year? Similar to the circumstances that landed Malik Jackson at UT in football?

Can guys with one year remaining not transfer?

Martin has done it one time, so running 2 guys off in a 5 year career is gonna hurt recruiting? Calipari has ran off his fair share and it hasn't seemed to effect him...

He would have to sit out if he transferred to a div 1 school so his college career would basically be over.

Also, I don't think Calipari has ran off as many as you like to think. Maybe when he first gets there (like at Kentucky) but not after that.

The rule allows you to take enough credits in the summer session to graduate and then find a school that offers something your present school doesn't offer for graduate studies. immediate playing time.

Funny. I just had this thought and was coming to post it. Edwards going this route would mean a positive outcome for all parties. I believe I am going to hitch my wagon to this scenario.

He has been here one year coming from a juco???

Very little chance he graduates if that's the case

For some reason I was thinking he had taken his red-shirt already. Since he hasn't he could just transfer take his redshirt while sitting out a year and then play his senior season. I'm still not a huge fan of running guys off but at least he would get to play his last season at Div 1.

I certainly don't like it and in fact think the NCAA should make the scholarships multi year contracts unless academics or discipline are issues. At the very least Since scholarships are only one year deals then players that don't have their scholarships renewed should certainly be able to play immediately at another D1 school.

I agree with this.

2 years in a row this seems likely. IMO this will start being used against martin in recruiting. In fact the NCAA now allows NLIs to be more than 1 year contracts. If we are head to head with another school I could see them using that and jones history to sway a kid away from us.

Other schools do this. Nick Saban does it more than anyone in the country in football.

Pearl had a few kids leave. Not sure of the reasons though.

No question other schools do it. I just think its something that will be used against us and now other schools could use the multi year nli to put them over the top in recruiting if they are so inclined.

Like I said, this would be 2 for Zo in a 5 year career. I'm sure plenty of coaches have done the same.

That would make entirely too much sense.

You do understand how far down the ladder D2 is right? It's not like college football where there are some decent FCS programs to transfer too.

I'm very well aware. Also aware there's some great teams who would probably be top 25 in D1 if they were eligible.

However, like already mentioned...he can go D1 still, it's all on him.

In D2? Really? who? Heck even Presbyterian is D1.

I'd put money down Forbes team would definitely compete in the SEC, and may even get ranked. Well coached team that will out probably 6 guys on D1 teams off this years roster, most of which are going to high major programs like Louisville.

Unfortunately there's no way we will ever know, so not really worth arguing it lol. It's like Huntington Prep, yes they're HS, but they've absolutely destroyed some college teams they play.

Thought Forbes coached at a juco.
