If a sitting president could be indicted, it opens the door to "political assassination" - a prosecutor anywhere could file suit. Could the president then conduct his duties while fighting charges, would the 25th Amendment be used to claim him incapable of serving? That would be an extremely dangerous precedent. Congress has the power to impeach if warranted, and the bar is set higher than a criminal prosecutor in Podunk, Wherever. Seems like the best course is leave the impeachment process in place and criminal prosecution for ex presidents when absolutely warranted, and this case isn't that. If it is, then it's definitely time to strip congress of its slush fund and let members of congress in on the new fun and games.
