I'd say the Tour wouldn't drop off too much from the "mainstream" if Tiger left. He did garner the game of golf national attention though

The tour would take a beating. Most events would be relegated to Golf Channel coverage.

Tiger doesn't play many events outside the majors and WGC events. He could leave the tour tomorrow and still play in enough tournaments to keep his profile high.

The Masters is an independent/invitational event. Not a regular season PGA "championship" tourney.

How many non-majors and non-WGC events does Tiger play in every year? Maybe 5?

Not saying it's a good idea for Tiger to give up his tour card, but as I think about it, I'm not sure it would have much of an impact on his schedule.

i can do better than that. i'm the best within a 100 ft radius. my neighbor is pretty good.

By God, I'll tell you whut, you give me a mulligan per side, a first tee mully, let me play from the whites on a dry, windless day on a fairly easy track, generous gimmes (you know, within 3 or 4 feet depending on how much we've been drinking), roll it over in the rough, and there's a better than 50% chance I can break 90. Now, let me give you my detailed analysis why a guy who swings like Jim Furyk will never, ever be successful on the PGA Tour. Oh, wait....

Exactly. And the only way this will change is if one of the talented American players under 30 finally puts it all together and becomes a legitimate superstar. The thing that has always separated Tiger from the pack is the supreme drive to be the best and to utterly dominate the competition, and I'm not sure guys like AK, Fowler, Dustin Johnson, etc. have it.

Ima tell you something, I can absolutely guarantee you that I'm the best golfer within a 25-foot radius of where I'm sitting right now.

Sadly, I am not. I am no worse than second, though, at least until Cotton Jr. can master the Varden grip.
