The Masters Tournament

Dooz, if ESPN and CBS threw up the cash, Hootie and Co. would let them televise the whole thing. They have way more say than you want to think. It hurts that because of the way Augusta wants to run things, they lose a lot of ad revenue. People like to think that's it's mostly just Augusta doing things their way and not allowing all the ads, but it's also because people aren't willing to pay up for the PC issues that partnering with Augusta brings.

Wrong

A couple of musings about this year's Masters

1. The albatross changed everything. Even the announcing crew had to take a moment to realize what happened. Throwing the ball to the crowd just made it crazier.

2. Phil's caddy needed to stop Phil from trying to play out of the woods. Phil was in no mental condition to think clearly.

3. I give credit to Phil for not caving after the triple.

4. The contrast in styles and demeanor between Bubba and Louis couldn't have been greater.

5. If Westwood could putt he'd have walked away with it.

6. Saturday was crazy, Sunday was amazing (see #1). The energy completely changed with the albatross.

Even though I wanted Bubba to get a win, I really wanted to see Louis win it, just because I felt he deserved it and it would have made the double eagle that much more historically significant.

7. The game won yesterday. No Tiger, yet amazingly a fabulous Masters was played, then won by a free spirited golfer.

I disagree with no. 2 100%

Phil was in no mental condition to think clearly? Please explain

He was flustered and ended up trying a miracle shot which failed and led to a second attempted miracle shot that nearly hit him which would have added strokes. Going back to the tee was the safe and odds play. At a minimum he needed to be calmed down to rationally think through the options and likelihoods.

The shot he took to get the ball out of the bamboo was a million to one chance.

Not to be a Tiger apologist, but the piling on about kicking the club is a little weak.

In all likelyhood he may have saved 1 stroke or could have made it worse.

bubber out of the pines was pretty wicked good.

Yes, and realistically may have been just as good a shot as the albatross. Getting double eagle requires a really good tee and second shot, and then a lot of luck. Bubba's shot was brilliant.

Still, getting the 4th dbl eagle in Masters history, and the 1st on the second hole, and going on to win it all because of that one shot would be pretty special.

Possibly - all I'm saying is that it was clear to me he needed to be calmed down/refocused to better consider the options. His second attempt at the upside down club shot came really quick and it looked like he was about to go Tin Cup. He was lucky to get a six out of it after the first attempt from the bamboo.

There's no need for a grown man to throw his club then kick it.

I can handle the swearing and dropping your club or putter in exasperation. In fact, I think it's funny to see people get pissed over it. However, Tiger probably took it too far with that move.
