The Masters Tournament

There's no need for a grown man to throw his club then kick it.

I can handle the swearing and dropping your club or putter in exasperation. In fact, I think it's funny to see people get pissed over it. However, Tiger probably took it too far with that move.

Bobby Jones was one of the biggest culprits. People laugh when they tell stories about him throwing and fake throwing to make everyone duck.

He was flustered and ended up trying a miracle shot which failed and led to a second attempted miracle shot that nearly hit him which would have added strokes. Going back to the tee was the safe and odds play. At a minimum he needed to be calmed down to rationally think through the options and likelihoods.

The shot he took to get the ball out of the bamboo was a million to one chance.

I don't disagree he shouldn't have went back to the tee, but that's easy to say in retrospect. BTW, it's not a miracle shot. he just mi**** it. Especially the second one. He took his eye off of the ball. He would normally hit that shot much farther

He was pretty calm and his caddy is one of the best in the business.

This. Almost seems like golf (and the fans) needs to re-learn that it can be interesting without Tiger.

Of course it can, yesterday only highlighted the fact that there are a lot of other likeable golfers out there. However, while golf can be interesting without Tiger, it's almost always more interesting WITH Tiger.

This. And if it was anybody but Tiger I think this a non-story except on the golf channel.

Sure. Then again, very few players display their temper in the same fashion as Tiger. Most of the great players have cussed and it's been heard. I can't think of another one of the greatest players doing something like that at Augusta.

I think a lot of it is that the camera catches every move Tiger makes.

That being said, his little move where he either let's go of the club with his right hand or turns it loose all together after a bad shot needs to go.

Sure it was but nowhere near the magnitude or difficulty of the double eagle

I was just telling my Dad the same thing. No further away than he was, Bubba can probably hit that ball on the green 7 out of 10 times. The miracle is that he hit it that deep into the trees and wasn't stymied.

you mean like Woody Austin, or how about Craig (drawing a blank on his last time), that was DQ'd for too many clubs in his bag

I would disagree. Louis hit it 240 to the front of the green and got really, really lucky. Bubba was in a playoff for the Masters, and had to hit a near impossible shot just to stay in contention. I would say that Bubba's shot was the better of the two, but that's my opinion.

Agree. When you have about 80 feet of roll, it's much more luck than skill. IMO.

Louis said in his Sunday interview that it was about 210 to the front. Seems that they were calling it 260 total but he said it was about 230/235 to the pin.

It was a 4 iron.

There is just as much arrogance in his twirl at the top after a good iron as there is to his bad shot antics.

That being said, I just enjoy watching him play. He's good TV.

You really think it's a sign of arrogance? A lot of guys twirl clubs and/or "pose" by holding their finish.

I agree with you though. However miserable a human being he might be, I enjoy watching him negotiate a golf course.

He averages over 290 off the tee & he hit quite a few 300+ drives this past week.

I finally just looked it up. He's 42nd on tour in Driving distance . . . but he was 2nd in Driving distance at the Masters mostly due to his performance on Sunday when he averaged 308 yards.

Check out the disparity in how far he was hitting it the first 3 rounds and what he did on Sunday.

Driving Distance Leaders - 2011 Masters Tournament

He actually averaged further than Bubba on Sunday . . . which is kind of funny because if you saw the last few drives Bubba hit, it was apparent he was 20 yards longer Oosthuizen when he wanted to be.

Arrogance? Really? A lot of guys twirl clubs and/or "pose" by holding their finish.
In Tiger's case, yes. I really think Tiger now tries to play 'like Tiger'... all these affectations(in his positive side of the game) are how he wants to be seen. Trying to play 'like Tiger' rather than playing golf may be part of his problem.

Truth is, he's only played really well 4 or 5 times since his father died.
