The Masters

but a simple comment would have solved the issue. Instead, you've got the stiff upperlip crows and Tom Watson just being arses about it.

from what i've read/been told they tried to just talk to him and McCord was the one that was a complete arse about it.

They do have some funny rules though for commentators. 1st cut, 2nd cut blah blah... What's it like to be a PATRON at the Masters?

now I just feel dumb because I have even helped serve as rules official (with an SRO only a two-way radio call away), but i'm failing to see what you could have done? You have to drop the ball as close to the original spot as possible correct? Unless you are saying you wish you would've taken the unplayable?

What I should have done is at least attempt to replace the portion of the divot that I took to make the area as "playable" as possible before I took the drop. Also, I probably could have been a little more creative when I dropped the ball to ensure that I missed the divot hole.

ah.. the first part makes sense and as i stated before I'm not sure how you could justifiably prove you weren't aiming for the divot hole in the first place on your drop. thanks for clarifying.

i like Faldo as well. i always take something from each time i hear him.

the DirecTV coverage of the Masters was great. i didn't watch anything else this weekend when golf was on.

I just don't like Tiger in the US and British Opens. It takes particular courses and setups to work for him. Tight US Opens and slow green British Opens make it tough on him. I don't like him to dominate like he did in 2000 or the end of last season. His driver just isn't that good.

I need him to win 2 of the 3,

Last time I was in Vegas (Dec) I bet on Tiger to win all 4majors, and 2 of the 4.

I can tear up the ticket with him winning all 4.

Congrats to Immelman, his putting held up and he's the new Master's Champion..

as a Patron, it's no really different than anyplace else. The lack of commercialization is the enormous difference.

The annoying part is hordes of first timers that buy one of everything in the pro shop and wear two or three of the articles every day they're at the tournament.

I BOUGHT A ADIDAS GOLF SHIRT THAT HAS SOME SPECIAL STAY DRY MATERIAL AND MAN IT WAS A GOD SEND. I RECCOMEND (BREATH DRY) TO ANYONE. Sorry about the caps

I've actually found that the Antigua Desert Dry Breeze is the best shirt made. Easily the most comfortable, however, they are made enormous, so size down.

TGW has them on sale for nearly nothing a couple times per year, hence I now own about 20 of them and my wife absolutely hates them.

i don't think i could afford anything in the pro shop besides maybe a hat.

you might be surprised. It's really not particularly pricey, especially compared to other tour stops.

I typically buy a new visor and new shirt each year, but the one thing I always get is the stationery. For whatever reason, I use their stationery for sending notes. I've been doing it now for 12 years. I get some interesting comments back. Surprisingly, I get many who ask where the stationery is from.

I think lundquist calls one of the holes.

Best announcer today is Faldo, hands down.

I liked Faldo as well. He shows a genuine respect for the traditions of the Masters, not to mention being able to communicate his tremendous knowledge of the game.

i think i'm going to make a run at going in the next couple of years. more than likely it will be a 30th birthday present to myself. i just need to start schmoozing with a few folks i know who have connections down there. i'll probably blow it out and do it all.

I just think Faldo is funny as hell. His vocabulary is great and he's very clever.

I didn't hear him call the Masters, but I'm sure he livened it up a bit.

and scalping tickets is not impossible, just a bit pricey. It's better for the practice rounds actually. I enjoy the tournament itself, but the practice rounds are fantastic.

why is that?

i couldn't stand to know that i was there but missed the tournament.

money won't be an issue. i think if it is, Augusta probably isn't where you should be trying to take a vacation.

Tournament Tickets
Tournament or "Series" Badges (Thursday through Sunday) have been sold to those on our patron list which was closed due to demand in 1972. A waiting list began in 1972, and was closed in 1978. It reopened in 2000, and it too is now closed. No applications for "Series" Badges are currently being accepted.

because the crowds aren't quite as big and aren't as fixated on single players. The players themselves interact with the crowds more. The players try more shots, even trick shots (many skip balls across the pond at 16). Those days just have a different feel than do the actual tournament days. Both have their merits, but the actual Masters experience is much more about Augusta National than it is any single tournament. The place is amazing for that entire week, not just the four tourney days.

I have a ball just ticking along with a couple of lesser knowns and watching them with their caddies trying to figure things out, especially at 12.

This year, I missed the practice rounds and vowed not to do so any more in the years that I am lucky enough to go.

Hope you had a nice time BPV.

Not watching on TV saved you having to watch Immelman's torturous pre shot routine for five hours on sunday...
thank you, and I did have a nice time. Didn't really see much of Immelman other than the driving range and putting green. Watched part of the replay last night and the guy is slow, but he played as well as he can play through about the first 15 holes. He made some very solid putts and almost never had a gimme.

I almost like the practice rounds better for exactly the reasons you stated. It's laid back and you get to enjoy the course without fighting for a view like you have to do on a tournament day.

Par at 11 was among the best I've seen there. Not better than Crenshaw of course, but still an insanely tough one made to look easy.

That's one of the few times I saw him live. I was actually to the right of that green (along with about 6 million other people).

I don't know if making a 20 footer down that hill can be called easy, but he did pour it right in the center. Not to mention his enormous lead at that point probably forced the third shot that stayed short. It's a tighter race and he's probably forced to give that more effort. As it was, a bogey would have been just fine.
