Well frankly, NCAA basketball has been ruined since the one and done thing came into being. UK, UNC, Duke are the defacto NBA farm teams. It is ruining the NCAA, imho. Might as well pay the players and let the schools with the big endowments get all the big name mercenaries... I mean "students" just get it over with. Then you'll watch it become just another pro league. God knows we don't have enough professional basketball. boring. I'm thrilled that UK is done this year. hopefully soon Duke and UNC will join them, but as long as UK is gone I'll start watching the tournament.NCAA doesn't either so it's all good in the hood with me. Duke players could burn down an orphanage and everyone would still be crying about Calipari.

Then let them go right out of high school. This is ridiculous forcing them to "go to college" for at least a year. Guys like John Wall (the only name that pops into my head) had no business or business reason to go to UK. He would have done just fine going straight into the pros. Football is different because of the violence involved.Yeah It would be better if it was back to 3 years like with FB but the NBA is so bad and there are to many franchises, they need players right away

People are right that one-and-done is a problem. Unfortunately, most think the solution is to go in the wrong direction and force players to play for free longer.
If they were going straight to the NFL, yes. But if there was a minor league for them to go to it would be perfect. Let the guys who want a degree go to college. The guys who want/need money, can go semi pro.
There's probably a reason this idea hasn't taken off. Sandlot semi-pro teams used to be more prevalent (Unitas played for one after Pittsburgh cut him). Bad business model compared to utilizing the university system. The few NFL caliber players that can't qualify at even the lower level school are too few and far between. The NFL hasn't sniffed and so far no businessmen have taken on the venture of starting such a system...that speaks volumes.
You are more likely to see them get paid. Which will ruin college sports completely.
If I'm the NFL I wouldn't think of changing things. As things stand now, they get a farm system that costs them $0. No reason for them to rock the boat.
But I do think a spring football league could do well. It would never match the NFL, of course, but it could carve out a decent market. The USFL did until they switched to a fall league. Start in March, finish up in July. I'd watch it.
