The Meltdown That Is Happening At CatsPause

NCAA doesn't either so it's all good in the hood with me. Duke players could burn down an orphanage and everyone would still be crying about Calipari.
Well frankly, NCAA basketball has been ruined since the one and done thing came into being. UK, UNC, Duke are the defacto NBA farm teams. It is ruining the NCAA, imho. Might as well pay the players and let the schools with the big endowments get all the big name mercenaries... I mean "students" just get it over with. Then you'll watch it become just another pro league. God knows we don't have enough professional basketball. boring. I'm thrilled that UK is done this year. hopefully soon Duke and UNC will join them, but as long as UK is gone I'll start watching the tournament.

Yeah It would be better if it was back to 3 years like with FB but the NBA is so bad and there are to many franchises, they need players right away

I agree it's not the best for CBB. I don't think it's ruining the game though. Make it 2 and done or straight to pro after your 17. Make the DLeague a viable and livable situation for new guys. I hope it happens.

Then let them go right out of high school. This is ridiculous forcing them to "go to college" for at least a year. Guys like John Wall (the only name that pops into my head) had no business or business reason to go to UK. He would have done just fine going straight into the pros. Football is different because of the violence involved.

I agree there. But the DLeague needs to be a better option. And I hated to see a guy like Mudiay or whatever go rent himself in China for a year. Can't let that happen imo.

You are more likely to see them get paid. Which will ruin college sports completely.

Paid to come to college?

edit: Oh duh. So you'd rather keep the DLeague like it is b/c if it got a good option the college players would shun college? I understand.

Bob Knight? Is that you?

People are right that one-and-done is a problem. Unfortunately, most think the solution is to go in the wrong direction and force players to play for free longer.

Why did you hate that? I'm glad he went and made millions instead of risking injury without compensation in college.

3 years is just about the worst possible solution. The NBA wants players to be in college longer, not shorter. They're the ones that made the rule keeping high school kids out.

The NBA and NFL should have a true minor league system like MLB. Once a player turns 18, give them the option of college or going pro. Stop this idiocy once and for all.

I wish a talent like Mudiay had an option to do the same in the USA. Not millions, but at least a better wage than what they have now.

Going pro out of high school for the nfl is dumb

If they were going straight to the NFL, yes. But if there was a minor league for them to go to it would be perfect. Let the guys who want a degree go to college. The guys who want/need money, can go semi pro.

There's probably a reason this idea hasn't taken off. Sandlot semi-pro teams used to be more prevalent (Unitas played for one after Pittsburgh cut him). Bad business model compared to utilizing the university system. The few NFL caliber players that can't qualify at even the lower level school are too few and far between. The NFL hasn't sniffed and so far no businessmen have taken on the venture of starting such a system...that speaks volumes.

If I'm the NFL I wouldn't think of changing things. As things stand now, they get a farm system that costs them $0. No reason for them to rock the boat.

But I do think a spring football league could do well. It would never match the NFL, of course, but it could carve out a decent market. The USFL did until they switched to a fall league. Start in March, finish up in July. I'd watch it.

ruin college sports? I dunno, but i used to enjoy watching kids playing for their school and staying to get their degree and hope maybe for a chance at Pro levels. i used to watch all college sports, now, I rarely watch except for UT football. let em go to a 'D' league, make some money and move on, but allow and encourage them to go to school if they so desire as a student only.

That was NFL Europe. Produced Kurt Warner among others. Not sure why it didn't work...might do better with advances...in the US.
