The Meltdown That Is Happening At CatsPause

I never did say Pearl was better cause he's not. If I had to choose one coach who I think is a better coach overall than Calipari would be Rick Pitino. I guarantee if he was still coaching Kentucky and had Calipari's talent to work with, they'd be a contender for a National Championship every year. Of course UK fans will disagree with me but that's what I believe.

But wait, I thought we've been to a good number of Final Fours? Or was I dreaming? Without looking, probably more than Coach K, Pitino, and Izzo in that span. Coach K 2/2 in titles but Cal has done more with younger teams.

Cal isn't in that level, but he's not complete garbage like so many pretend.

He's got 1 ring and is hoarding talent year after year.

There's no way he should have lost with wall and Cousins.

They'll bring up that Calipari has been to more final fours than any other coach but no one mentions that he only has 1 ring to show for it when he's clearly had more talented teams over the years than anyone. Honestly Kentucky should have beat Wisconsin in 2015 and they should have beat Indiana in the 2nd round of the NCAA Tournament.

Have we underachieved under Cal? Sure. But we've still been to more Final Fours than anyone and won a title. We're almost always the youngest team. For some reason Cal gets zero credit for making a bunch of freshmen work well together. Coach K wins a title with some one-and-dones. Congrats. Cal wins a title with one and ones, he has absolutely zero skill as a coach.

We should have won a title in 2010, 2014, and 2015. All those years we either had the best team, or simply choked in a big game (both in 2015). 2014 can't really complain considering we got enough luck for a decade in one run.

What you just said is where I'm trying to get at. Those years you just mentioned, Kentucky should have won a title. I don't know if it had to do with lack of in-game adjustments or you didn't have luck on your side but Calipari has somewhat underachieved. He's already proven that he's the best recruiter in the nation. He doesn't need to improve that but there's room for improvement when it comes to his in-game coaching. If Calipari could coach as well as he recruits, no other coach could come close to his level.

I just think people underplay the work it takes to get an entirely new team nearly every season. You don't have 2-3 years to look back and plan exactly what you have. It's obviously the downfall of one-and-done systems. I'm not saying that's to blame, but it's the main challenge for us year to year.

I guess we can agree it's underachieving. But if 4 FF's and 1 T is underachieving, then I can't really complain. More often than not Cal has taken new players and gotten them to work well together. That's something that people seem to think comes naturally to 5* high schoolers.

Whatever he's selling to all these McDonald's All American recruits, seems to be working. I will give him credit for getting a bunch of freshman to play together as a team. I'm not saying Cal is a bad coach. All I'm saying is that there's room for improvement when it comes to his in-game coaching and decision making. The biggest head scratcher I've ever seen Cal make was starting the Harrison twins over Ullis. It's pretty obvisous Ullis ran the team better and he's a guy who wouldn't give up on a play. If he would have started him last year, I would bet that Kentucky would have won the National Championship.

Let's hope this never happens. He would dominate like Geno.

Don't know if Ulis was ready from day 1. He was good in his role. But by the end of the season, I wish he had been more willing to put him in during late game. Obviously against Wisconsin. Cal said the Harrisons deserved it, oh well. I kinda get it. He's not the best in game coach, but I think he's slightly above average. Although most of the hard part is done off the court.

Here is where you show your ignorance. The NCAAT is as random as anything. The favorite rarely goes into the thing with any more than a 25% likelihood of winning.

I mean but still, you can't say UK hasn't had a couple seasons where they dropped the ball. It wasn't even close in 2015. We were easily the best team except for maybe 1 or 2 teams. 2010 too maybe.

And yet, that team may have been the favorite, but in a 6-game tournament, there was enough probability built in that they didn't. I want NCs, but they are not the sole "litmus test" of great coaching and great teams.

They are what we judge by when we look back through the years. No one cares that we went to 4 FFs. They care that we won 1 title. They care that Coach K won 2 titles, even though he went to less FFs. Winning the tourney dictates success by elite teams, whether fair or not.

Unrealistic fans might. I've been watching UK basketball nearly half a century, and have come to realize that a NC in a 6-game tournament that was preceded by 34 games doesn't always represent the best team.

Dude, I hate it too. It sucks but it's the way it is.

I know the NCAA Tournament is unpredictable man but you have to look at the facts too. Cal had a lot of NBA talent on his 2015 team that's doing very well in the NBA right now despite the Harrison twins. They were clearly head and shoulders above everyone else, talent wise. It was just an unfortunate loss against Wisconsin. As a Tennessee fan, I would have killed to have that much talent on our team.

Who is available? Would Barnes leave UT? Indiana is ready to get rid of Tom Crean. Steve Alfors would probably like this part of the country (look at his overall body of work). Some have mentioned Kenny Payne, he may do better than Orlando Antigua

Did anyone else find themselves pulling for the Cats against UGA so that our win would look better?
