The Meltdown That Is Happening At CatsPause

Will Stephen A Smith and his brothers have questions for Coach Calipari?

Kentucky was supposedly the best defensive team in the country--but they played a stupid defensive game. As Charles Barkley smartly pointed out, they switched on screens all night and allowed their smallest players (and granted they don't have too many) to get caught inside guarding Wisconsin's bigs. Wisconsin many times took advantage of this. Kentucky could have not switched at all--or switched back ASAP, because they almost always had time to do so--but did not. Gave up a number of baskets because of that.

Also, Kentucky played dumb offensively down the stretch. There was no need to milk the clock, which threw them out of rhythm. On one important possession with about 1.5/2 minutes left, Townes had great position in the low post and called for the ball, perfect opportunity for him, Harrison didn't pass it to him. He decided to milk more clock, ended up going solo and missed a shot. Milking the clock and isolating Harrison: They did it at least three times and got no scores. Dumb basketball. Take your best shot.

That clip is real: Harrison turns his head away from the mike just before saying it.

Good win for traditional college basketball last night--athletes who stay in school. Hope Wisconsin has enough energy left to beat duke. I don't like Kentucky but don't hate the program either. It's a program for basketball mercenaries. I used to dislike Cal but he actually seems like a decent guy--always gracious in defeat. I can't imagine that he actually likes starting over every year with a group of new recruits; there is not much college integrity in the 1-and-done model, and as a coach he has to deal with a lack of experience and continuity almost every year--but when your recruits are the absolute cream of the crop, I suppose the one-and-done racket is a price you're wiling to pay. Okafor will be 1-and-Done for Duke this year, I think. I hope Wisconsin can bring this home. They play a very smart, fundamental style of basketball, as they have for years, this difference this year being that they've got a couple of bigs who are excellent players. Guys like Kaminsky, very agile and talented 7' footer who can score inside and out, and Decker--6'9" guy who can take you off the dribble, are rare.

Really? I thought you had to be a rival to start one of these meltdown threads. You are not a rival to Kentucky. Sorry, that's just how it is.

You're right. Even though your basketball team has lost to Tennessee more than any other school, we're not a true basketball rival for you guys because of the win-loss record.....exactly like you guys aren't remotely a football rival because we whip your ass every time we play. I get it.

UK fans are all up in arms about the FT discrepancy of 22-10. They're too stupid to realize 8 of those 22 occured in the final 24 seconds as intentional fouls. Take them out and it's 14-10 on attempts (I'm sure they'd still gripe though). For such a passionate fanbase who prides themselves on their love of basketball, there are so many who have no concept or understanding of the game.

I just want Harrison to get fined if he goes to the NBA for what he said or suspended a few games next year if he stays. You can't be allowed to freely swear and use racial slurs, especially about other players, and get away with it. We get up in arms if a person calls another gay (and we should), we would be tearing down buildings if this was a Wisconsin player doing it, so we should only have the same reaction for this.

If we want equality we have to start treating all actions like this the same.

Considering the numerous times UK bb has been the topic of headlines form the NCAA, no we choose not to be a rival.

didn't realize Caulley-Stein and a few other KY players walked off without shaking hands.

Then the Harrison brother saying what he said....

These are immature ******* freshman kids that are going into the NBA to become ******* adults.

I concur, it's on Cal he should have just let his players play ball. He really laid an egg in this one just like when he was at Memphis.

Happens all the time in the tourney. I remember the 04-05 Kansas team, made up of mostly all upperclassmen, walking off without shaking the Bucknell players hands after the game.

All I can say is, if you can't win the NCAA with that group of players what group can you win with?

Maybe they need to recruit better?

I know sportsmanship is important, but when the winning team is celebrating the way WI was, should we really expect the losing team to stand around for 3-5 minutes to shake hands? I have seen this happen in other games. When the winning team is circled up on the court and jumping up and down they are not thinking about sportsmanship and shaking hands with the losing team either.

And yet if one tiny thing were different, Harrison being white for example, this WOULD be a mountain. Stephen A. Smith and Jemelle Hill would be all over this, and it will only further prove our own racism as a country if it is simply glossed over.

This is true. An awkward double standard has arisen due to having the most infamous slur in our society also serve as a term of endearment because so many blacks, particularly in the music industry have persistently used it for so long in reference to themselves and each other.
