The Meltdown That Is Happening At CatsPause

I just want Harrison to get fined if he goes to the NBA for what he said or suspended a few games next year if he stays. You can't be allowed to freely swear and use racial slurs, especially about other players, and get away with it. We get up in arms if a person calls another gay (and we should), we would be tearing down buildings if this was a Wisconsin player doing it, so we should only have the same reaction for this.

If we want equality we have to start treating all actions like this the same.

It's not the same. Now, I don't condone it and Harrison should get a bunch of flak for it. However, the slur is a term used against black people, so it wasn't like Harrison was using it in a racial sense. Now, had he said "cracker" or something, then, yeah, it becomes a racial incident.

It's incredibly immature for Harrison to say it, especially in that setting, but I think he's getting the proper amount of heat for saying what he said.

He did not use it in a racial sense, but there is still no place for the word being used in public. It pains me that he does not have the sense or decorum to hold his tongue. I mean he was at a press conference. One has to wonder about his intellect. As a black man, I don't use the word around my kids or with casual friends. However I do use the word when I am speaking with my wife about how certain people act or when I am speaking with very close friends when we are discussing certain issues.

You're right. While Kaminsky woukd be having his life dissected and ruined as we speak had he been caught saying the same thing about Harrison...,all that's being said about Harrison is that he should've been smarter than to say that where people can hear it, that he really showed no disrespect toward Kaminsky and that, in a way, he was actually being complimentary of Kaminsky. The unbelievable double standard is beyond Orwellian.

Un-effing-believable....especially since he's gotten zero heat.

Zero heat? This was a front page story on the ESPN website and discussed frequently on Sportscenter as well as on other news sites.

Exactly, it's wasn't used in a racial context, but it's extremely immature and disrespectful to use, especially in that situation.

The kids in Oklahoma were kicked out of school, My gut reaction is Harrison should have the same fate.....False double standard

True, but the people calling it a double standard, obviously don't understand what the phrase means. Of course, if it had been reversed it would have been different. The obvious escapes them.

Yeah, he's really been taken to the woodshed. I heard yesterday people completely dismissing it..."he was upset", "he should've been more careful saying it where people could hear it", "he was actually being complimentary of Kaminsky", etc, etc. It may have discussed it for about 8 seconds but it was completely dismissed and he was given a COMPLETE PASS.

I understand it completely. Do you really think he was being complimentary of Kaminsky, the biggest reason why his season just ended?

But I can 100% assure you, had Harrison said "F that cracker or white boy", he'd have been given the same pass he's already been given here. That's the point, that's why its a double standard.

So in this case does the word apply to Harrison?

No, he wouldn't have been given a "pass" and certainly would've have gotten much more flak than he has now.

So, he hasn't been taken to task by 100% of the people, is that the problem? He most certainly got a good amount of negative feedback. However, it was given about the right amount of attention, in my opinion.

Good grief people. Two days of this crap. It wouldn't mean nearly as much to anybody if we didn't get so snatched up every time someone says something dumb.

No, he hasn't. Has he disciplined in any way? Suspended? Has anybody called the kid out other than saying he should've been smarter than to say that in front of any open mic? No. He was praised for (rightfully) apologizing to Kaminsky swiftly and that's that. Negative feedback? From whom? I've yet to hear any. Hell, Ive only heard people defending him by saying he didn't disrespect Kaminsky at all and was in fact complimenting him.

I am 56 years old, I know exactly what the phrase means and Harrison should be kicked out of school

Was this the most talented team to NOT win the championship? Drexler/Olayjuwan or another UK team under Calipari maybe?
