The Ministry of Truth thread

To date, everything I've seen says their role is to monitor it. I do think DHS would have been better off explaining up front that this will be a working group that assembles reports on deliberate misinformation form hostile foreign actors and make recommendations to Congress and to the Department about how to respond to it. Would not have nearly the fake furor we have at the moment.

Geez, the right wingers are literally falling all over each other to be on the front of the attack on this, to scare people and especially the base that its some type of Orwellian domestic censorship and that is just not the case.

Go back to whining that the administration is not doing enough to combat inflation. While not entirely deserved, it has a kernel of validity to it.
First comes 'monitor' then comes 'control. The government camel has a very small nose that becomes rapidly large when it gets into your tent.

In my lifetime there was neither, you either told the truth or you were a liar, there was no such thing as mis or dis information.

Yeah, I love the people like Brian Williams that said they “misremembered”. No, you just made up s**t in your head and passed it off as legit thinking nobody would ever look behind the curtains.

I have already said this "misinformation" agency is a terrible idea. It's better to just let the "vaccines will instill you with a mind control chip" crowd have their say... and trust that responsible American adults will take the time to research important information concerning their health and the health of their children. The government will never be able to stop stupid people from making stupid decisions.

This is where criticisms of the Democrats for wanting to run a "Nanny State" are completely justified. Now, having said that, I do not believe that any of the conservatives posting to this thread, or for that matter, any Republicans in Congress would have a problem with such an agency if Donald Trump had been the President to suggest it.

Allowing Americans to think for themselves? Be careful, they are going to pull your progressive card.

And the Trump base would have been the first to grab pitchforks if Trump would have suggested such a thing - but they know he is not so stupid. Besides, it is not conservatives that want to cancel your speech, nor populist nationalists like Trump. Indeed, Trump likes the cacophony of many voices.

While simultaneously alleging that Twitter violated his 1st Amendment rights for banning him from their platform (which was obviously not a violation of the 1st Amendment), Trump publicly lobbied the FCC to revoke the broadcast licenses of both CNN and NBC (which really would have been a violation of the 1st Amendment). He never received anything but applause from his followers for that.

Basically, I think you're wrong. Trump's base (the people who attend his rallies) would follow him down any rabbit hole he chose.

Funny thing is neither CNN nor NBC have broadcast licenses.

He was right to do so as they lied many times daily about the russian hoax.
@Gandalf

^^^^ This is exactly what I was talking about. It does not matter that Trump was threatening a government-authorized censorship of networks, in what would be a clear violation of the 1st Amendment. In the mind of a Trump supporter / conservative / Republican, he was right to do it.

Is there any doubt this same poster, @Caculator, would approve of "The Ministry of Truth", if it was Trump who had created it? There shouldn't be. This poster would find a reason to justify it ... if it was Trump's agency.

This is selective outrage. Censorship is just like deficit spending. It only bothers Trump supporters, Republicans, and conservatives when Democrats and liberals are the ones doing it.

Did trump say that CNN and NBC could stop broadcasting thier lies? Did he actually petition congress to rule on it?? Did he act on his statement?? If the answer is NO then but Trump doesn't apply.

Trump does apply, because even though his threat was not actionable, the purpose behind his threat was still the advocating of government censorship. How do you go from that, to being a champion of free speech? That is inconsistent.

It is inconsistent. Now can we move on from Trump?

I'm wanting to know the difference between misinformation and disinformation.
Misinformation is not deliberate, disinformation is.

Misinformation Example: Your Babushka: "Honey do these pants make my ass look fat?" You: "No, of course not baby!"

Disinformation Example: Your President: "This is a 3 day special military operation to de-nazify Ukraine".

So I was right?

1 is accidentally released
1 is deliberately released

Maybe?
