The murder of Ahmaud Arbery

Personally, I don't really see it as a gun rights' case, other than gun owners should behave in a responsible way with their firearms. If anything, responsible gun owners should be even more pissed off because it's idiots like this that create the basis for anti-gun arguments.
This is absolutely correct.
The gun could easily be any other weapon

I didn't post to try and exonerate these guys. Just was posting because you had asked if there was evidence of him being on video. To me this changes nothing about their murder charges.

Although I would hope it might change the false narrative he was just out for a jog.

I could tell when I saw his cargo shorts and long belt flapping around when he was struggling with the shooter that he hadn't been out on a jog. That false narrative, although irrelevant, will just give ammunition to those who want to defend the shooter's actions.

There’s no defense for their actions here.
I’ve told a story here before.
As a teenager I caught an intruder in my house. Chased him out the front door while I was armed with a 12ga. I shut the front door and locked it behind him. Because my dad has trained us ahead of time on what to do. My dad didn’t chase him outside either. Outside it becomes a police issue.

2/3 of gun deaths are self inflicted. Without those guns then those people will kill themselves by other means.
Yet none of the anti gun dipsticks are ever talking about how to solve the mental health issue in this country

Based on the recent posts, I'm sure glad those DA's weren't armed with an "assault weapon".

What are you going to do, ban shotguns and handguns?

C'mon, quit trying to make this a 2A issue.

BTW, nice SCAR.

I think it's undeniable that a society's safety decreases as gun ownership goes up. Can you show me any example of societal crime in a country going down as private gun ownership goes up?
How would you explain gun free zones/areas being a hotbed of crime activity and really doing nothing to deter shootings? Shootings still happen in those areas even though guns are banned.

If you are a criminal and you are standing between two houses, and one has a sign in the yard that says "gun free house" and the other says "protected by Smith and Wesson" which one would you target?

Jmo but I think these guys probably need to be charged with something but I do have questions
1) Did he walk to the neighborhood or drive?
2) Was this site recently burglarized?
3) Did Arbery match the description of the person who had committed burglaries in the neighborhood.. including gun theft?
4) Does he have a history of thefts?
2, 3, 4 is all yes

Crime has been on the decrease in America for 30 plus years

That complicates things a bit. I see a police cruiser go by 5 min after he left the house. While he's in there, 2 neighbors are in their yards looking at the house before he runs from the house.
Can you detain someone in Georgia under citizens arrest? I would think that would be the job of the police.

You can if you have "immediate knowledge" of the crime. But, even if those neighbors who can be seen in the video saw him in the house, of what crime would they have immediate knowledge?

You don’t think they knew the owner had thefts, wasn’t home, and that no one was supposed to be there?

I don't know if they knew that or not. What I am sure of is that if they knew that AND they saw him on the property THEN they would have mentioned that to the cops. I don't know these gentlemen or their levels of intelligence. But I will give them the benefit of the doubt to believe that they wouldn't simply forget to mention the one piece of information that might remotely justify their actions.

If you see someone you don't recognize on my property, do you have immediate knowledge that he's trespassing?
Was it stated anywhere that the neighbors knew the owners of the property? It was under construction, no one was living there. Whether the kid was trespassing or not it doesn't matter to me. Whether he was just jogging or casing the place I think a few things went terribly wrong.
One person across the street was watching Aubrey from his front yard. Another neighbor next door to the property came out into his yard.
The police were there in 5 minutes after he left the building. I don't think the mcmicheals should have stopped or tried to hender him. If they had not tried to stop him this whole mess would not have happened and aubrey would be alive. That was the first misstep and it cost a man his life.

Agree with all of that.

I never knew stopping and going through a house under construction that wasn't yours was such a popular pastime amongst posters on here.
Grew up seeing it and doing it. Back in the day listing agents and the contractors encouraged it. These days its discouraged mostly because of injury responsibilities.

My first thought would be to look at the crime rate in Israel.....everywhere you go people are carrying guns

Atlanta Mayor Bottoms: Trump’s Rhetoric Gave ‘Permission’ in Ahmaud Arbery Shooting

Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms addressed unarmed black jogger Ahmaud Arbery being chased and shot dead allegedly by two white men, Gregory and Travis McMichael in Georgia on February 23.

Host Jake Tapper said, “The shooting happened back on February 23. Authorities had possession of a now-viral video of the shooting from the beginning. But the murder charges were not filed until this past week after the video emerged online and shocked and outraged millions of Americans. Do you think that the two men were only charged because the video became public?”

Lance Bottoms said, “I think that’s absolutely the reason that they were charged. I think had we not seen that video, I don’t believe that they would be charged. And it’s heartbreaking that it’s 2020. This was a lynching of an African-American man. And I think that, you know, my heart goes out to his family. But I think, again, it’s a part of this bigger issue that we are having in this country with the rhetoric we hear coming out of the White House in so many ways, I think that many who are prone to being racist are given permission to do it in an overt way that we otherwise would not see in 2020.”

She added, “You have to remember, Jake, you know, in cities across this country, even if local leadership fails, there was always the backstop of our Justice Department to step in and make sure people are appropriately prosecuted. But we don’t have that leadership at the top right now. It’s disheartening. And I can tell you, I have four kids, three of whom are African-American boys. They are afraid. They are angry, and they are afraid. I think it speaks to the need to have leadership at the top that cares for all of our communities and not just in words but in deeds as well.”
