The Noah Thread (Merged)

It would be pretty cool if after UF's last game Noah came out and said, "I dedicate my collegiate accomplishments to you, VolNation.com. Without your constant ridicule, I never would've been pushed to achieve such greatness."

Yet another post exposing your abject ignorance about college basketball. In case you didn't know, which you apparently don't, the college game was actually played for many seasons before last year. Your little rant today exposes the best Johnny Come Lately instincts among Gator fans. Your program has been relevant for about 8 minutes, and will cease being so as soon as this season is over, yet you act like you're North Carolina. To say Noah caught more heat than the guys I referenced shows your knowledge of college basketball history could fit in a thimble. People dislike Noah because he's an overhyped, NBA bust in waiting. He's the fourth best player on his own team, yet everyone is exposed to these halfwit ramblings about how persecuted he is.

Well, let's not get personal about it, right?

I wacthed people sing to Laettner. Reddick plays here in Orlando and I watched him in college and I know how fans can mock pretty boys. Totally different scenario than what Noah has had to put up with.

I've been watching the NCAA tournament since the days of John Thompson and Patrick Ewing and Carlisimo and UNLV and Tarkanian and Williams at Kansas and I still wish they'd play "This is it" when the Final Four coverage starts up so don't tell me that I have no knowledge or perspective on the game.

As much as you? Nope. Not even close. But enough to make the comment I've made on this subject.

I understand how it might seem inconsistent to you. The difference is that Lofton has been praised continuously for his efforts (as he should be) and my point was that Noah, despite being the subject of some really hateful stuff, has nonetheless persevered. And a lot of that type of hateful stuff has been right here. At Volnation.

So, yes, I get a little defensive about it. And, yes, I get proud of the fact that this UF kid pours his heart out into the game every week for the Gators depsite the fact that he is just tormented by people that want him to fail because they don't like what he looks like.
you asked, i posted it. nothing more nothing less.

bottom line LG is this......those trophies have gone to your head. the view from the top of your nose must be getting better and better each day, if you honestly think you are going post that article on this board and expect all of us to go "you know what, that Noah kid, they're right. what a raw deal he got"

he plays for FL. they won a nt and are in the final four again. they won the SEC again. they are also one of our division rivals. and let's face it, he is funny lookin'. He is brash. He is cocky and he was not afraid last year to show it off.......so he got it back this year, big damn deal. from the looks of things it didn't hurt the team too much, so my only question is why in the hell do you care what we think when you and FL are on the mountain top? what validation do you need from volnation? Esp, when you know going in you aren't going to get it.......it's kind of like a self fulfilling prophecy--"I bet these TN fans aren't going to like Noah.......see i was right" kind of thing.

you really just shouldn't be all that surprised, OR OFFENDED at this.

I'm not offended at this. Its just a discussion. No one here as a lock on objective truth. Everyone has an opinion.

I do get a bit put off by people claiming I'm inconsistent in my treatment of this issue versus individual honors discussion, or in this topic versus where Meacham wil be drafted. But my irritation at those things is because of the illogic of the tirade against me.

Plus, I'm put off quite a bit by people saying I know so little of what I'm talking about that my opinion has no merit. I don't claim to be a member of the college basketball equivalanet of MENSA, but on this subject I don't think I have to be.

you do realize you are talking to a fan base that has Phil Fulmer as his head coach? i doubt very seriously you are going to get an ounce of sympathy from us considering there is probably no coach in the SEC, maybe naiton, that takes it on the chin as much as he does for his size. And a lot of that comes from many TN fans....

just get over it LG..........

He wouldn't be brought up if he didn't have a bad attitude. There is no reason to do that guffy little dance. Like another ex. Gator Emmitt Smith said, act like you've been there before. If they are the best then act like it. I have a problem with his whinning over no calls and acting like a 5 year old as if every game was there 1st win. They aren't the Marist women's team.

It's okay for Gator fans to go after Fulmer and say you can't spell Citrus without a U and a T but heaven forbid we say a word about the almighty Gators.

Jake, I appreciate your humor and effort to defuse the situation and thank you for that. I am not personally upset about the posts here in this thread, though I will defend myself. Its just talk. Nothing to get over.

Laettner spent his entire senior season dealing with fans taunting him about his alleged homosexual relationship with Brian Davis. Reddick had Maryland fans making sickening chants about his sister. Noah has never dealt with anything remotely that tough. If he thinks this year has been tough on him, wait until next year when his hometown fans are booing him because he is a Benoit Benjamin/Robert Traylor type NBA Lottery bust. See what that does for his eggshell psyche.

but that's just it, it's not consistent.....it's convenient. it's convenient for you to talk about TEAM awards when FL has two national titles in hand and a possible third on the way and ours doesn't. It's convenient for you to NOT like individual awards when your team doesn't have any and ours does. It's convenient for you to rant on and on about us making fun of how Noah looks, when, guess what, he does look like Michael Jackson. it's convenient for you to rip us for praising former vols in the NFL, cause we have so many that are standouts in the NFL and FL, while they may have close to the same number, doesn't have near the number that are standout NFL players. It's then convenient again to come back here and say "well look at all that talent you had then, and what did they accomplish in college?", and compare it to what your team did in college....

some would simply call that instigation. but that's just me.

it's whatever fits at the moment for you, and some of us have just called you out on it. your opinion is still your opinion, but it is awfully convenient that your opinions fit right in with exactly what's happening for your FL gators at the moment.....and funnier still that you have to come here and post this stuff, in the midst of having a great basketball season.....so again, i ask, why?

You have to admit, its pretty ironic, that Noah who has had probably as sheltered a life as anyone in Div 1 basketball, would be considered "wise beyond his years" because of difficulties he's encountered.

Precisely.

Lawgator pimps Noah as this humble kid who quietly takes his criticism and uses it as motivation to let his game do the talking...quite the contrary...Noah is as obnoxious, boisterous, and arrogant as any college athlete in the country.

I can't recall the taunting of any of those guys reaching the nationwide crescendo that the Noah rant has. I certainly don't recall it being such a spectacle that ESPN and CNN/SI and other major outlets run lengthy stories about the haranguing that those guys took. A few games where things got awful for them? Sure. But not every single minute of every single game, defending an NT, for a solid year.

Thank you, my point. I don't see how I would be "exhibit 1".

Noah has not even been the most ridiculed Gator. That honor belongs to Matt Walsh.
