The Numbers Thread

The numbers crunch will preclude Butch from accepting any new commitments at QB, RB, TE unless someone at one of those positions de-commits. He will continue to recruit them and slow play them, but he will not accept anyone at those positions.

We have too many positions of need that MUST be filled. We can not beat the Alabamas, LSUs, and UGAs of the SEC by singing more QBs, RBs and not recruiting guys in the trenches.

No it won't. If a better prospect than what we have committed wants to come at qb or rb we will take them. Very simple. Someone will leave on their own or get nicely told to look elsewhere. We have offers out to top qbs and rbs. If any want to commit they will be accepted. We have ok players we can afford to lose at a few spots. TE we are good. The only recruit we have seen being slow played is Harrell. The others are still being heavily recruited and can commit anytime they want to. We will be good on the lines. Butch knows what he needs. If he wants another rb or qb, which he obviously does. That means we need them.

There have been numerous recruits where it was obvious UT was/is slow playing them. Several have even said as much. I think your mindset that every recruit is in jeopardy of losing his spot IF a higher rated kid wants in. That's just silly. Why take commitments at all then? Some FANS base who they want to see signed based off of "rankings". I can assure you that CBJ does not. We have 2 top QBs committed. We have 2 top RBs committed I agree with Tux. We are done there.

The staff will continue to recruit QBs and RBs. As they should, just in case. IMO they will not be "taking" anymore.

You forgot to say "In my opinion". Because it's ALL your opinion.

IF they can take 22,

Add McKenzie, Richmond, Phillips, Ordway, Jones.

IF they can take 23,

Add Sapp.

IF they can take 24,

Add Martin.

Somehow they can take 25,

Add an OT(Givens or Sweet IMO) or Jefferson at WR.

Yes? No? Am I on crack?

:)

But, I will tell you mike, that you have not been reading my posts and paying attention, because if you did, you would see well laid discussion of numbers.

But I will defer to you since you say so.

I'm reading the posts and enjoying the discussion. However, to say this...

...implies you have direct knowledge of the situation.

We all express opinions here. Occasionally, those opinions are backed up by fact --- like we can only take a certain number of players because of NCAA/SEC mandated limits. I get it. Unless you're Butch Jones or Dave Hart, though, it's impossible to say the numbers will preclude us from taking certain positions AND Butch will slow play them and not accept anyone at those positions. You just don't know that.

So you are saying that we are going to take more players at those positions?

I mean if they sign 25, it stands to reason they could sign 3 more QBs, another TE, and 4 more RBs right?

Would anyone really be upset if CBJ passed on McKenzie, Phillips, Jones, Richmond, and others at MUCH needed positions?

:p

No. I'm saying I don't know. And neither do you.

Nothing personal. Just fact.

Mike anyone using commons sense regarding recruiting knows that we will not be taking anymore QBs and RBs in this class the way the numbers are currently distributed.

If you don't believe that, then just watch it play out. But of course, you may not say so.:hi:

Tux you're the worst. Obviously it seems like we wouldn't take anymore but we might get a decommitment and then take another one he's saying there's no way to know definitively...

Go to your own board if you're gonna keep acting like you're the almighty end all be all because you supposedly played college ball like plenty of people.

So why not look at it as QB, and RB is full. No reason really to discuss who "might de-commit". IMO why not save that discussion for IF it happens? I think Reid, Kamara, Jennings, and Dormady stick. IF one decides to look around, then talk of who's next makes sense. JMO

I agree we shouldn't talk about decommits specifically, I'm just saying it's a possibility and so I would never call a position "full" because recruiting is so fluid.

No need to borrow worries now, but no reason to act like it's ridiculous to think we will continue to look at players at these positions and could possibly end up with another one.

I agree that those spots will still be recruited. I just don't think any of those 4 "look elsewhere" and I don't think the staff would try and recruit over them, pushing them out. All 4 look to be top quality gets. No reason to rock the boat IMO.

I didn't think Booth or Mouhon would last year either. They both looked to be top quality gets as well. You just never know when dealing with high school kids.

Sigh. I give up Tux. You have all the answers.

Carry on.

No, I just use logic, common sense and don't live in fantasyland. Having seen a few rodeos from up close and from afar, you see some things as they really are.
