Newly-released documents show that last February, on an official visit to Mexico, Justice Department official Lanny Breuer suggested fighting arms trafficking by using the tactic of intentionally letting guns flow into Mexico via criminals.
According to the documents, Assistant Attorney General Breuer suggested the U.S. and Mexico consider working together to allow arms traffickers for Mexican drug cartels "to cross into Mexico," so that Mexican authorities could later prosecute and convict them.
The documents indicate Mexico's then-attache spoke against Breuer's idea. He "raised the issue that there is an inherent risk in allowing weapons to pass from the US to Mexico; the possibility of the [Government of Mexico] not seizing the weapons; and the weapons being used to commit a crime in Mexico."
The mere suggestion by a high level Justice official that "gunwalking" should be employed raises eyebrows not only because the tactic is considered dangerous, and has since been officially banned by Attorney General Holder; but also because of the timing. The Justice Department had just drafted a letter to Congress denying it would ever use such a tactic. And Congress had just begun investigating the ATF gunwalking operation "Fast and Furious," which had been operating in secret for more than a year.
Your actions lead us to conclude that the [Justice] Department is actively engaged in a cover-up, wrote House Government Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa to Attorney General Holder just two days before his February 2nd testimony before the Committee. (1)
---------------------------------
And February 4th was a very significant date in the history of Fast and Furious. On that day, Assistant Attorney General Ron Weich addressed a letter to congress, claiming the Department of Justice had allowed no alleged gunwalking to take place, directly contradicting the testimony provided Senator Charles Grassley by ATF whistle blowers.
And that lie was maintained by the Department until May 5th when Holder suddenly altered the DOJs recollection of events in a meeting of underlings and House committee staff.
------------------------------
Holder has dodged and stalled for a year. He has cited the unending Inspector Generals ongoing investigation as a perpetual excuse for refusing to provide information. He has refused to allow DOJ underlings to testify. He stated in no uncertain terms that he would NOT honor subpoenas from the House of Representatives.
-------------------------------
If Holder does not meet the February 9th deadline given him by Issa for the production of documents subpoenaed by the House, Issas committee can cite Holder for contempt and turn the affair over to the full House. If the House should pass a contempt Resolution against the Attorney General, the Sergeant at Arms would have the task of placing Holder under arrest and bringing him to House chambers where he would answer to the charges and subsequently be set free or placed in prison.
-------------------------------
Republicans have the power, the authority and the legal and ethical right to put Eric Holder exactly where he belongs for complicity in the breaking of countless laws and the murder of hundredsFort Leavenworth, Kansas. But do they have the guts!
Go ahead and hold your breath for that one.
Be persistent. I got your back on this.
Not only is Barack Obamas Department of Justice pleased to file suit against states which seek to legally ensure only registered voters who are American citizens will vote in the upcoming election, it is now actively working with ACORNs Project Vote to register voters revealed to be quite illegal!
Documents obtained from the Colorado Department of State show ACORN and its Project Vote had pressured the State to make it easier for welfare recipients to register to vote in the 2008 and 2010 elections.
And after those changes, the percentage of invalid voter registration forms from Colorado public assistance agencies was four times the national average. (1)
And not only is the Department of Justice doing everything in its power to make certain illegal voters in November will be many and their votes counted, officials from both the Department and the White House have met with Estelle Rogers, Director of Advocacy for ACORNs Project Vote for the purpose of discussing strategy.
And that strategy is of course directed at making sure Barack Hussein Obama remains in the White House with the assistance of as many illegal votes as possible.
The Examiner reports that 70 ACORN employees in 12 states have been convicted of voter registration fraud. And of the 1.3 million registrations Project Vote/ACORN submitted in the 2008 election cycle, more than one third were invalid. (1)
And Rogers herself wields her connection to the Obama White House and Justice Department like a club, threatening states with DOJ lawsuits should they actually attempt to make certain that elections are honest and voters properly screened.
A U.S. Justice Department source has told The Daily Caller that at least two DOJ prosecutors accepted cash bribes from allegedly corrupt finance executives who were indicted under court seal within the past 13 months, but never arrested or prosecuted.
This means DOJ lawyers, criminal prosecutors, are accused of accepting cash from the people they were investigating. But it gets worse. Eric Holder knows about it and is doing nothing:
The bribed officials, an attorney with knowledge of the investigation told TheDC, remain on the taxpayers payroll at the Justice Department without any accountability. The DOJ source said Holder does not want to admit public officials accepted bribes while under his leadership.
------------------------------
Consider the case of perjury inside the Voting Section. Hans von Spakovsky has this story regarding repeated perjury during a DOJ Inspector General investigation. Sources tell me nothing whatsoever has happened to the person. The Washington Times also had a story about a DOJ employee using government funds to travel to Florida to meet a girlfriend, to the tune of at least $30,000. DOJ sources tell me this person received a tasty buyout package.
What happens to assistant United States attorneys working in the Eastern District of Virginia who surf child porn at work in the Obama Justice Department?
Nothing.
The Justice Department is supposed to represent the finest ideals of law enforcement. Under the Obama administration, we have multiple instances of high and low officials inside the DOJ allegedly engaging in criminal activity. Yet there is no accountability.
Months ago, Boehner prevented Darrell Issa filing a charge of perjury against Holder even after documents proved the Attorney Generals May 4th House testimony concerning the date of his first acquaintance with Fast and Furious to be an outright lie.
And now the weepy Speaker will OFFICIALLY let the most corrupt Department of Justice head in the nations history off the hook for complicity in the Regimes murderous scheme to savage the 2nd Amendment rights of the American people.
The terms of the betrayal John Boehner is currently putting together:
The Committee will accept the scalps of [Lanny] Breuer and [Jason] Wienstein, DOJ will release enough of the (documents) to condemn them, claim cooperation (thus giving the appearance of recognizing congresss oversight authority), and Holder will survive looking like a leader for offering them up (along with a few lower level ATF and DOJ folk). The Committee will chalk one in the Win column for oversight and holding people accountable. DOJ will have the same for cooperating and accountability. (1)
Lovely, isnt it! Hundreds are dead, including two American agents. One of those dead, Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry was literally set up for murder by an FBI INFORMANT who, on December 14th of 2010, accompanied and LED the drug cartel rip gang responsible for Terrys death. The other victim, ICE Agent Jaime Zapata was NOT PERMITTED by LAW to even possess a weapon with which he might have defended himself from his killers!
Yet John Boehner will be pleased to sell them out in order to lay claim to the pathetically comic mantle of a tough-minded Republican leader who brought down 2 Obama Regime, Department of Justice higher-ups. That is, with the approval of the White House, of course.
But in point of fact Boehner will, as usual, simply be doing do what is politically safe and expedient rather than what is RIGHT.
As recently as January of last year, one of Mr. Cardonas brothers in Chicago, Carlos Rojas Cardona, arranged for the former chairman of the Iowa Democratic Party to seek a pardon from the governor for Pepe Cardona, according to prosecutors in that state. None was forthcoming.
Last fall, Carlos Cardona and another brother in Chicago, Alberto Rojas Cardona, began raising money for the Obama campaign and the Democratic National Committee. The Cardona brothers, who have no prior history of political giving, appeared seemingly out of nowhere in the world of Democratic fund-raising, Democratic activists said.
.... as has his $200,000 in fundraising done for Barack Obama. Obama has now returned the money, but the scrutiny on Cardona continues. It now appears that Cardona's links to the organized crime world also ties him to the DEA, which ran Operation Fast and Furious. Cardona was allegedly involved with a top drug cartel across the border, which laundered millions with the help of the American government.
Just recently, his brother Carlos attempted to his Juan pardoned by the Democratic Party out of Iowa:
As recently as January of last year, one of Mr. Cardonas brothers in Chicago, Carlos Rojas Cardona, arranged for the former chairman of the Iowa Democratic Party to seek a pardon from the governor for Pepe Cardona, according to prosecutors in that state. None was forthcoming.
Wikileaks exposed a US Consulate cable that showed five million dollars in bribes that the Cardona brother had paid to Mexican politicians, and also exposed that they may be linked to the Beltran Leyva drug cartel!
The media still doesnt give it proper coverage, especially this news: On February 4th, Mexico arrests a key figure in Fast & Furious. Not only is he a key person in Fast & Furious, but he was also a top lieutenant to El Chapo. I first found out about it on Borderland Beat, a great website keeping us up to date about the drug war in Mexico. The Los Angeles Times reported it on February 7th and my colleague AWR Hawkins published commenrary on February 8th. Silence from media.
This is HUGE for Mexico and for us. The suspect is Jose Antonio Torres Marrufo aka El Marrufo or El Jaguar. He was the head of la Gente Nueva in Chihuahua and the Sinaloa cartels top man in Ciudad Juarez, Mexicos most dangerous city.
He was also wanted in the US for drug trafficking and the recipient of high powered weapons from Operation Fast and Furious. He owned the home that was raided in April 2011 that had the guns from Fast & Furious.
This is GREAT news for everyone in America and Mexico, including Mr. Holder yet I dont hear anything from the media. A Google search yielded just three actual posts on this subject.
Thank you LA Times for reporting this, but this is another case that confirms my suspicions: If the AP doesnt write about it the majority of the Old Media will ignore it.
On Tuesday Rep. Darrell Issa, chairman of the House committee on Oversight and Government Reform, took a major step toward holding Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress for his failure to provide subpoenaed documents and other information about Operation Fast and Furious.
not sure how much longer this guy can lastIn his testimony, Holder said that the emails only referred to Operation Wide Receiver.
Holder told the committee: That refers to Wide Receiver, not to Fast and Furious. The e-mail that you [Rep. Chaffetz] just read [between Trusty and Weinstein] now this is important that email referred to Wide Receiver, it did not refer to Fast and Furious. That has to be noted for the record.
Chaffetz, after a long pause, said, "No, it doesn't. It says Fast and Furious. 'Do you think we should have Lanny participate in press when Fast and Furious and Lauras Tucson case [Wide Receiver] are unsealed?' It's specific to Fast and Furious. That is not true, Mr. Attorney General. I'm happy to share it with you."
I omitted nothing. Just pasted a small part but it was full paragraphs
The source reporting Special Agent in Charge of ATF's Tampa Field Division Virginia O'Brien "ran a gun-running investigation that was walking guns to Honduras using the techniques and tactics identical to Fast and Furious" contacted these correspondents again this evening with this follow-up report:
O'Brien is in full meltdown. She ordered supervisors from around the Division to report immediately to division offices and to plan on working through the entire weekend on the coverup.
Her partner in the bungle was ASAC Scott McCampbell. At one point the case was ready to be wrapped up with arrests and remain relatively efficient but O'Brien and McCampbell decided on their own to keep it going to "get more" against the advise of thier field employees and the walked guns numbers got out of control.
OB is terrified that her intentional concealing of her walked guns is going to do her in since she disregarded orders to report to DOJ and Congress.
Nearly the same culprits above her are on the hook for this. Chait knew about it so did Hoover and Melson. The new player is DAD East Julie Torres. She took O'Brien's old DAD job when OB went to Tampa and has given OB carte blanche to do whatever she wants with little oversight.
Reportedly the shredders are buzzing.
This is a long read, but the most comprehensive I've seen on the whole Fast and Furious Scandal. Thought it would be interesting to post.
The truth about the Fast and Furious scandal - Fortune Features
On February 15, 2011, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent Jaime Zapata, 32, was shot mortally in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. Members of Los Zetas drug gang also hit ICE Agent Victor Avila in that ambush, although not fatally. This assault involved a rifle purchased in Dallas in another Obama administration gunwalking escapade.
Largely overlooked is this plans calamitous impact on Mexico, its people, and U.S.-Mexican relations. Fast and Furious has spilled American blood. But south of the border, it has made blood gush like an oil strike.
One of the things thats so offensive about this case is that our federal government knowingly, willfully, purposefully gave the drug cartels nearly 2,000 weapons mainly AK-47s and allowed them to walk, Representative Jason Chaffetz (R., Utah) told NBC News.
------------------------------
Approximately 300 Mexicans have been killed or wounded by Fast and Furious guns, estimates former Mexican attorney general Victor Humberto Benítez Treviño. Now the chairman of the Mexican Chamber of Deputies Justice Committee, Benítez told the Los Angeles Times that Fast and Furious was a bad business that got out of hand.
Relevant details are scarce. However, at least one case generated enormous headlines in Mexico. Here is what happened, according to a July 26, 2011, joint report by House Government Reform Committee chairman Darrell Issa (R., Calif.) and Senate Judiciary Committee ranking Republican Charles Grassley of Iowa.
On October 21, 2010, Sinaloa drug cartel members kidnapped Mario Gonzalez Rodriguez, brother of Chihuahua States thenattorney general, Patricia Gonzalez Rodriguez. She believed his abduction was in retaliation for her prosecution of Sinaloa narco-traffickers. A video promptly emerged showing Mario in handcuffs, surrounded by five armed, masked captors. That November 5, his tortured body was discovered in a shallow grave. Mexican police soon nabbed his suspected kidnappers after a shootout. Serial numbers confirm that two of the 16 weapons seized from eight of these hoodlums were Fast and Furious guns. These also were tied to the kidnappings of two people.
Patricia Gonzalez Rodriguez said, The basic ineptitude of these officials caused the death of my brother and surely thousands more victims.
---------------------
Mexican authorities say La Familia possessed heavy-duty body armor and 70 rifles, including several Fast and Furious weapons.
Two weapons purchased by Fast and Furious targets were recovered in Sonora on July 1, 2010, and tied to a Homicide/Willful Kill Gun, the U.S. Justice Department revealed last September 9.
Two Fast and Furious guns were linked to a February 2010 assassination conspiracy against Baja Californias thenpolice chief, Julian Leyzaola.
Four Fast and Furious guns were found on January 8, 2010, and connected to a kidnap/ransom.
Eleven Fast and Furious firearms were discovered in Atoyac de Álvarez after Mexican soldiers saved a kidnap victim on November 14, 2009.
As of December 2010, 241 Fast and Furious guns had been recovered in Mexico and 350 in America.
-----------------------------
Mexican attorney general Marisela Morales told the Los Angeles Times that she first learned about Fast and Furious via news accounts. In no way would we have allowed it, she said, because it is an attack on the safety of Mexicans. In June 2011, a U.S. official informed Morales that, eight months earlier, Mario Gonzalez Rodriguezs murderers used Fast and Furious guns.

This foreign-policy fiasco is the brainchild of an administration whose transparency was supposed to stun the world and whose sagacity promised to smooth international relations after the alleged small-mindedness of the G. W. Bush years.
-----------------------
This is the perfect storm of idiocy, ATFs Carlos Canino told Representative Issas investigators: Unfortunately, there are hundreds of Brian Terrys probably in Mexico. . . . We [ATF] armed the [Sinaloa] cartel. It is disgusting.
And, as Issa and Grassley concluded last July 22, 1,048 of those weapons remain unaccounted for.
After more than 18 months of waiting and a contempt of Congress charge against Attorney General Eric Holder, the FBI unsealed an indictment of five illegal Mexican bandits charged with the murder of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry today in Arizona and offered a $1 million reward for information leading to the arrest of four of the five men who are still on the run and suspected to be in Mexico. The men are Manuel Osorio-Arellanes, Jesus Rosario Favela-Astorga, Ivan Soto-Barraza, Heraclio Osorio-Arellanes and Lionel Portillo-Meza, Manuel and Heraclio are brothers. During a press conference earlier today, the FBI confirmed they will ask for the individuals below to be extradited to the United States should they be captured south of the border. The FBI did not confirm whether any of these bandits were working as FBI informants at the time of Terry's death, which confidential sources have said to be the case. At least two of the guns found at Terry's murder scene were linked back to the Department of Justice's Operation Fast and Furious.
One of the nation's oldest conservatives group is offering whistleblowers a $100,000 reward for information from the White House and Justice Department on the "Fast & Furious" administration gun-running bungle.
-------------------------
Reward poster reads: "If you have verifiable evidence that President Obama or one of his aides knew about Operation Fast & Furious while it was underway, Call 1-888-692-7374 toll free. This is your opportunity to save yourself before Operation Fast & Furious comes crashing down like Watergate. Don't go to jail. Turn states evidence now just like John Dean did. The truth will come out. Will you be caught in the web of Operation Fast & Furious, or will you avoid jail time?"
----------------------------
Congress recently held Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt, claiming that he was stonewalling Republican demands for more information about the affair, which has become politically explosive in border states.
