It’s been amazing to watch everybody in the FF swear up and down we’d dominate Indiana. No idea where that confidence came from, the best team we (barely) beat was freaking Kentucky

Jarrett Guarantano is not a winner. Tough as nails, but he is a bad QB who makes terrible decisions, late decisions, and losing decisions. He' is, and I mean this in the literal sense, a loser. That isn't changing. The sooner Pruitt figures that out, the better.

You’re right. Exemplified by throwing to a blanketed RB a yard behind the line of scrimmage on 3rd and 8. Hope Harrison Bailey can come in and start right away. Hope JG transfers

Lots of talk about how we’d beat OU next year as well.

Your average fan is just unable to separate the emotional fan part of their brain from the rational part.

The reality is we are a team that lost to GA st. and BYU that has played better at the end of the season and beat middling SEC teams.

That’s really all you can say.

It’s nice but pump the brakes. Let them actually prove something.

I think he realizes it. I just don’t think he has anything he can do about it.

We’d be very lucky to land a Russel Wilson kind of transfer. I think we could have won 10 games this year with a Josh Dobbs.

We’re a good qb away from being a top 20 type team. Our qb play either drags us down or sort of gets out of the way. The IU qb makes positive plays for them and he was the back up till an injury. Weinke must suck bad at coaching qb’s

Just like I said, I knew we’d whip those Big Ten sissies!

Yeah that’s true I guess, this team still had a favorable schedule and played terribly at times. Still, don’t want to be a nitpicker after such an exciting win
This will always be remembered as the season we should have gone 10-3. No excuse for BYU amd GSU losses. Nothing erases that, unfortunately. Still an exciting win and beats ending the season on a sour note.

That’s true. People seem mostly thrilled about this season but I’m sure that’s partially recency bias. The first six games always seem to define the season less in the eyes of fans than the last six. An example would be how differently Butch’s two 9-4 seasons are viewed

Butch’s two 9-4 seasons were so bizarre because on one hand they were a welcome reprieve from the decade of suck.

On the other hand they were huge underachievement (especially the second one) considering our talent level due to just non-stop coaching gafs and the inability to put a component offensive line on the field.

I agree with you although I did think we'd beat Indiana pretty easily. Not because I thought we were that good but because IU's 8-4 was extremely misleading. They didn't beat one team with a winning record, and most were pretty terrible. The 4 good teams they played they lost to, and usually badly.

I'm glad we won, but people saying we're back and all this....seriously need to pump the brakes. Where things are going to be interesting is I think by next season Pruitt could have us back to peak Butch level, and I'm wondering how long that will be good enough.

Yeah someone put up a job approval poll for Pruitt. I said undecided. There have still been too many gaffes and missteps for me to completely be enthusiastic about him. It’s clear he’s still learning (that last offensive possession for us was horribly mismanaged), so he will get better hopefully. Needs to find a QB and beat one of the big three next year. It amazes me, I feel like a higher percentage of the FF loves him than the basketball forum loves Coach Barnes

I don't consider 2015 that bad. It felt like the natural step forward even though we did have the shoulda-coulda losses against OU and Florida. We went toe to toe with Alabama at Alabama and to me after that it felt like we were almost back.

2016...now that one felt weird. We started 5-0 but it started with the first game were we easily could have lost to App St. And then the Florida game we actually won but the way we did was actually rather frustrating because UF was rolling early and it felt like we were getting run out of Neyland. Then we win at Georgia on a hail mary after giving up a hail mary. Then we lost a TAMU and again it felt weird because it was 2OT but we should have won. Then we play Alabama and get destroyed and that game told me we weren't as good as I thought. And of course the inexcusable losses to SC and Vandy, which at that point sealed Butch's fate IMO.

I'm just amazed at how quickly it fell apart for Butch. I mean the end of 2015 I'm thinking "We're almost there" and halfway through 2016 we actually were going to win the East and it went to crap, and 1 year later he's out after it completely went to crap.

The FF is one of the most fickle bunch I've ever seen. Kiffin was the man, Dooley was the man, Butch was the man.....all before they weren't. Pruitt wasn't the man in September and needed to be shown the door, and now he's back to DEFINITELY being the man. But the truth is the jury is still out and will be, and if by the end of Year 4 or 5 we still haven't won the East he'll start to feel the same heat Butch did.

i could honestly write a book on the enigma that was Butch Jones.

Josh Dobbs was a fluke. Multiple injuries had to occur for him to see the field and Butch had a strong obsession with Justin Worley, the worst QB in modern UT history. He makes JG look like Peyton Manning by comparison.

Then, Dobbs goes on to salvage games that were so poorly coached and managed with constant timeout errors, clock management, charts for conversions, passive play calling with the lead. Prevent defenses. Bizarre personnel decisions. The list goes on and on.

DeBord seems like an awful hire. It ends up being a great hire, so you Butch has effectively bought your trust when he promoted Larry Scott and you assume it’ll be fine. It’s a disaster.

What a circus it was.

It genuinely feels at times like religion where they convince themselves every new coach is the prognosticated lord and savior and to challenge that belief would be blasphemy and all who questions the lord and savior are heathens who must be banished.

Until that savior proves he was a false prophet.

Then it’s on to the next savior and this time, it’s really him!

And this has been going on for 13 years now
