The Official “Regular Posters of the Basketball Forum” Thread

Yikes. Didn't get to watch the game today and just saw the score and box score. I'm genuinely surprised we got beat so badly at home. I hope it was a bad matchup for us and not a sign of things to come consistently. We will definitely lose some games, but we'll win a few too.

At this point, I'll say I'm ready for next season. I hope they can pull something together for conference play 🤞

GBO!

It was brutal. The most depressing basketball game I've been to in a while.

For entertainment, check out the hot takes in the LSU-OU thread.

So far I’ve seen:

Hurts is a garbage QB

Riley is fool’s Gold

OU is garbage

We will destroy OU next year

We can be as good as LSU next year

It’s a laugh riot of people that can only process the information that’s in front of them at the time.

Oh I know. Someone started a thread about whipping OU next year in the FF weeks ago. I just smh.

I'm afraid it's moreso a sign of things to come.

Wisconsin shot better from 3 than from 2. 17 turnovers to 9. TN actually had a couple more rebounds. UW is far more experienced... we had 4 freshmen on the floor together a few times.

Very little pressure from UW on our PGs bringing the ball up court. Maybe their coaches anticipated that TN would spend a lot if time preparing to face full court pressure... or it's just a cracker thing.

We don't have many wanting to score first. Gaines was looking to score. Bowden as well, but defenses focus on him. Johnson finally showed a little bit on offense in the 2nd half. 3x 3s. One the old fashioned type when cutting to the hoop.

Other than Bowden and Turner, who isn't left handed? I think that we might have had all 5 on the floor lefties at one point. O(R)N, Fulk, JJ, JJJ, Pons, Gaines. I can't remember if Pember is a lefty. Aren't Vescovi and Bailey left handed? Uros?

There sure are a bunch of newbies thinking that JJJ was supposed to be Magic Johnson and are now expecting Vescovi to be Steve Nash.
I read somewhere that Vescovi would rank number 71 recruit in a blended ranking of US and International. In other words he is just a prospect and not a program saver and instant All American like some are expecting. I hope they red shirt him and just get him acclimated for four full seasons.

I think it would probably be in everyone’s best interests to redshirt SV this year. While he could probably help the team out this year I still doubt we would be a tourney team. Maybe NIT. It’s hard to be patient and watch us struggle this year. I hope he sits and then helps lead us to 4 of the best years vol hoops has ever experienced. Patience is a virtue

Yea, but if the coaches believe there is a chance that he could leave early, then you play him. No reason to lose a year.

And if he doesn’t leave early you cost yourself a full year of eligibility. I think back to Kyle Alexander. He played a little and not too well as a true freshman on a bad team. If he had redshirted he could be having a big senior year and we sure could use him.

Not sure about the others you reference, but Pember isn't a lefty.

Costs half a year, cause he would be playing half of this year, so 3.5 instead of 4. It all depends on just how much they feel he can help, which none of us will likely have knowledge of. If you do go ahead and play him then you at least know to start looking for a replacement a little earlier than maybe you would’ve.

I mentioned KA in another thread. But the roster was so bad they had to play him. He was raw. Vescovi played at 2 international academies, and they know what they are getting. Coaches don’t always get it right, but they can make an educated guess about the type of talent they have. KA had only played a few years of basketball while Vescovi went to NBA academies specifically for basketball.

It's more than just a half year difference. It's half a year as an 18 year old with a week to prepare versus a full year and all of the practice time between March and November for a 22 year old with 3 years of game experience. But playing Vescovi now gets something versus nothing if he were to leave early and also the redshirt year is preserved in case of an injury.
