The Official “Regular Posters of the Basketball Forum” Thread

This is the first I have heard of this issue, but pretty interesting nonetheless. What a colossal mess the Vandy athletic department is right now. So glad it's not us for once!

It seems like Stackhouse has gotten Vanderbilt in on some pretty nice prospects. I'm sure his name carries some weight when he goes into a recruits house. It seems they have been second on a couple of big recruits and the ones has has landed wound up getting hurt a week or two into the season. Bad luck for him. Vandy seems to have doubled down on academics and less on athletics wit the recent administrative changes. It would be hard to coach there seeing the other SEC schools resources and support.

Gosh, who ever could have seen that not working out? Show of hands...🙋‍♂️

And the reason the SEC should tell them to kick rocks. I'd rather add Memphis than keep Vandy.

Although I hate Vandy it's kind of sad to see them fall this bad and to be this transparent about not caring about sports anymore. Yeah they've been terrible at football most of my life but even in my life time I still remember the Vandy game was still kind of a big deal if for nothing else it was Vandy. Granted a big part is just how the college football landscape has changed but still. And basketball against Vandy was always a bigger deal to me anyway. Vandy used to be a tough road game and playing at Memorial was almost as bad as playing at Rupp. Now it's just obvious it's a crappy gym.

I'm not really shedding a tear but at the same time it does make me feel a bit conflicted due to nostalgia. I really won't care if their baseball program tanks though.

If someone had asked me last year if the SEC would ever cut Vandy out I would have said no way. Too much tradition there. Now it makes sense. Vandy has shown they don't really care about athletics. They don't carry any weight in terms of a fan base and TV ratings. They certainly add some prestige on the academic end but will the rest of the schools want to give them a cut of their bowl profits and TV money for that. If cutting them out leads to another opportunity to expand the SEC footprint into Oklahoma, North Carolina or Virginia I could see it happening.

They've long been able to stay in the SEC for 2 reasons, A) being a founding member and B) being in Nashville.

B is no longer a valid reason, as Vandy fans are a minority in their own home city and pro sports overshadowed them a long time ago. It's been obvious a long time now, from their own shrinking home attendances at their home football and basketball games (not counting visiting fans) to the fact even in the past 10-15 years they couldn't get their own fans to drive the extra 10 minutes downtown to Nissan Stadium (other than their Music City Bowls) and Bridgestone Arena. I still remember the SEC/Big East showdown arond 2008-2009 when Vandy played the first game and we played the second, and the first game didn't have but maybe 1000 Vandy fans.....IN Nashville.

A is all they have left and my guess that tradition card is wearing very thin.

If the SEC ever departs from the NCAA, Vandy will be in huge trouble.

Glad I don't gamble.
your thinking made perfect sense without a doubt

But I have long sense stopped Believing that momentum is even a real thing when it comes from one game to another. I think momentum only matters within a game itself and once a game is over the next game stands on its own merit.

I generally agree, however that's with normal time in between games and an ability to go home and reset/recover mentally. Them being in this bubble and no true home court advantage I think keeps the players locked into a certain mindset and always "on" to a degree. I think momentum actually carries over from game to game more so right now. I think this/these bubble situations are fascinating and producing interesting outcomes in sports.
