The Official “Regular Posters of the Basketball Forum” Thread

I didn't care to engage at first, but my first thought:

The company providing the streaming has no control over taxes. Ticketmaster (yes, still ridiculous) charges fees because that is how they make money. Ticketmaster doesn't make money on the face value or the actual resale price of the ticket itself.

Anyone get the single season email yet? Will we need a code or will it be open for everyone immediately? I didn’t get the football code until later in the day when everything was taken, was hoping to steal a few decent seats today.

New Jersey AP voter released his top 25 vote for the poll coming out next week, he has the Vols at #10.

Kentucky is 5 on his ballot, Arkansas 15, Auburn 16, and Texas A&M 20th. He has Alabama in his 3 just outside the top 25.

I would say that’s about where we will be in both polls, 9-12.

Fun night in Market Square

Looked really, really impressive on the Vols/Lady Vols Instagram feeds. Huge turnout, plenty of fun and people love literal fireworks. Hopefully this leads to increased attendance for the November/December cupcake games with people excited for what should be an excellent season.

Is this what 1985 felt like?

The ending of the Bama games feel like 1985 and 1982. But in 1985 it was the defense that hung on for the win and in 2022 it’s the offense. In 1982 TN stopped Bama’s final scoring threat - so also the defense. The 2022 season (so far) feels like a blend of 1985 and 1998. 1985 was different because of blowing the 16 point lead late in Q4 versus UCLA AND losing to the Florida cheaters (and not being able to watch the game on TV because of THEIR sanctions) with T-Rob. Then barely hanging on versus Bama and GA Tech without T-Rob. But 1985 and 2022 have overachieved. The 1995 game was similar by ending Bama’s streak, but that Bama team was curb stomped at their place.

The 6 opponents that Dickie faced in the regular season in 1985 after hanging on at Bama were all chumps (and it took a Carlos Reveiz miracle FG to get the GT tie). Then Miami was totally unexpected - most fans were just happy to be back in the Sugar Bowl after about 15 years (15 years is a familiar number). Majors and Donahue gave us an all-time game plan. They did that versus Bo Jackson’s Auburn as well. 2022 has already done enough to beat 4 top teams. 1985, 1998, 1982, and 2022 are unique.

It feels a bit like at USC, jr in 2014 when Dobbs set things in motion to end Spurrier’s career. Maybe Saban will give Steve a call this week.

2022 pretty much has its own feel. If TN can take care of business with Martin, KY, Missouri, USCe, and Vandy then it will be an all-time great regular season. Going 5-1 probably gets TN in the play-off (assuming they keep at GA close). Winning a game in the Football Final Four would be a lot like beating Miami in the Sugar Bowl. Winning 2 playoff games is 1998. In 1985 TN had to win out versus the 3 stooges (Ole Miss, KY, and Vandy - something that hadn’t happened for a long time).

It feels like we're about to go into a potentially very special time to be a Vol fan. Football is back and barring a major upset even if we lose at Georgia we're looking at getting into the playoff as the #4. I feel like with Barnes' recruiting basketball is right there about to take that next step, we just need to get that one great tourney run to a FF. Women's basketball feels like it's slowly building back up. And even though we sputtered in the supers baseball is still rocking and we're on the map with it.

It is pretty close to the same. For me, this is the second major drought that I have lived through. So, I am not sure that this wasn't the biggest win in my lifetime. Just the way it played out in the last few minutes was so dramatic.

In '85, we came in with the national media saying that we had no chance. After Miami marched down the field and scored, it looked like they were all correct. Then, the rest of the game, we just dominated. So, I don't recall much drama, except that we simply trounced them. It was awesome for sure.

In '98, the whole season had it's drama. Not saying the title game wasn't awesome. It was a great game, but so was the Syracuse win, and so was the Arkansas miracle. So again, there were many big moments over the course of the season.

Last night's game, certainly the other big wins as well, but last night's ending was just something you only see in movies - against the team that has traditionally been our biggest rival. The sea of orange after the game was a sight to behold. I do not remember anything like it before. I don't know how you beat this for drama - right down to the knuckleball kick that barely makes it's way over the uprights.
