The Official “Regular Posters of the Basketball Forum” Thread

Kentucky almost never plays Wed games. Last year they had 3, the year before 0, in ‘16 they had 1, but also had 2 Thursday games w only a day off prior to Sat. In ‘15 they had 1. But it looks like other teams also typically play sparingly on Wed, granted none have ever had 0 games on Wed.

This is the first year I’ve heard complaints about their schedule.
Exactly, KY has historically always played on Tuesday nights for them to be on ESPN for the 7 or 9 pm tip.

Yes but there is a .09496% chance of their saturday opponents randomly all getting slotted in wednesday slots 9 weeks in a row. So if the SEC office made the schedule 10000 years in a row this would happen about 9 times. Or less than once in a millennia.

Wow, is that the actual odds figure or an exaggerated number?

I factored in a few more qualifiers with some different calculations which were all super unlikely, but the simplest is if kentucky only plays on Tuesdays (the final odds actually are even less likely if they dont), then theres a 6/13 chance the other teams play on wednesday. So the specific team that would play kentucky each week would have to hit that 6/13 9 times (weeks) in a row, or (6/13)^9 power, which gives you roughly .0009496, or .09496% chance of that happening which is roughly 9 in 10000. Rounded up that's 1 in 1000 which is why I said less than once per millenia.

Technically I think it might be slightly more likely (6/12 instead of 6/13) because it wouldn't be all non-kentucky teams to factor into each Wednesday game (13), it would be all non-Kentucky and non-kentucky tuesday opponents (12)

I’m in the same boat. Saturday night is the Father/Daughter dance, and I will be taking my 3 lovely girls out for the evening. Game is at 8:00 so I will likely catch the second half, but I wouldn’t miss that time with them for a game.
I prefer to pause the game then start watching about 45 minutes after it starts - let’s me fast forward through all the commercials and commentary that I don’t care to hear

I'm really torn on what to do. On one hand like I said, it will drive me crazy not knowing what the score is or what is going on. But on the other hand if the game is close, it will drive me crazy I'm not watching. And if we're losing or lose, I'll probably not even enjoy the concert anymore.

The last time this happened I was at a concert when we played Ole Miss in the SECT in Martin's first year, when we lost in OT. I checked the score right as it went to OT and when we lost I pretty much wanted to leave.

So this sucks. I'm going to miss the game Saturday night. I have concert tickets that I bought like 6 months ago, having no idea the matchup we'd have in store.

I'm trying to decide if I should turn off notices on my phone and record the game and watch it when I get home, or just leave them on and check my phone during the concert. I will probably go with keeping them on, because not knowing will drive me crazy.

What concert?

I agree with one of your earlier posts that it's not a huge deal. If UK plays at home on a Saturday and then plays on the road on Tuesday (instead of Wednesday), then they are at a disadvantage.

However, I believe Tuesday is the primetime night for SEC basketball. Yes, I know UK is the biggest draw, but you would think the SEC wouldn't let them play EVERY game on a Tuesday.

The point is that everyone in the conference plays on Saturday, so to follow it up on Tuesday puts no one at an advantage or disadvantage. Kentucky and LSU both played Saturday, so neither time has an extra day of rest over the other.

The issue comes the following Saturday after the midweek game. Tennessee plays on Wednesday this week, where UK played Tuesday. So, UK gets an extra day of rest leading up to the Saturday game.

The curious part is that UK doesn’t play a single Wednesday midweek game and every single one of their Saturday opponents have or will have played a Wednesday game prior to meeting UK on Saturday. So, in other words, UK has an extra day of rest over their Saturday opponent every week, which constitutes 50% of their schedule.

Tennessee only plays 2 Wednesday midweek games this year, both ahead of a Saturday matchup with UK.

The issue is moreso how the other teams schedules are. Every team that plays Uk on a Saturday plays the Wednesday prior.

Tennessee actually played at Vandy on a Wednesday night, but it was before the West Virginia game. I do agree that it's interesting that UT's other 2 Wednesday night games are before they play UK and that UK plays no Wednesday games.

The one argument I was trying to say that puts UK at a disadvantage is when they play at home on a Saturday and have to go on the road on a Tuesday (if the opponent had 2 straight home games). In essence, UK would have a quick turnaround AND travel. You would much rather have that situation with a Wednesday game.

All that to say...I looked it up and conveniently, UK never has a situation like that. If they play on the road on Tuesday, the home team played on the road the previous Saturday...every time.

Yes, I was referring solely to SEC games.

Both are good but I think Blue Stallion is the best in Lexington. I love the Hefeweizen beer that they have. I like the Cougar Bait and Shotgun Wedding at Country Boy and the West Sixth Cerveza and their Oktoberfest.

Shotgun Wedding is great. So is Dunkel at Blue Stallion. Now I’m thirsty.

I haven't been able to watch most of the Saturday games live, so I have been watching the replays on ESPN. Gotta say I enjoy it a lot more than I thought I would. Only challenge is not hearing about the game before you get home.

Same here. I work most Saturdays. Watch ESPN app is the greatest
