The Official “Regular Posters of the Basketball Forum” Thread

It's fun to watch every game, but everything that happens in the regular season is the build up to the grand finale in March. It's the same with the Super Bowl, the World Series etc. Legends are made in March.

Grant Williams is a Tennessee legend even though he never made it past the S16. Two time SEC POY. Lofton never made it past the S16, but he’s still a legend. A non Tennessee player who is a legend is Shaq. He’s a legend despite the fact that the teams he was on never made it out of the first weekend.

Legends aren’t made solely based off of what happens in March. Of course, a huge performance in March does help legends grow. A great player who leads his team to great accomplishments, even if those accomplishments aren’t in the ncaa tournament such as regular season conference titles and/or conference tournament titles, can be a legend.

Dalton Knecht, despite just being here for one season, will be considered a legend here. He’s going to be SEC POY and he led us to our first outright conference title since 2008.

We all want a deep run. One would think we are due, but whatever happens in the single elimination tournament doesn’t diminish regular season accomplishments and shouldn’t define a 30+ game season. This team has accomplished something that very few teams here have. That is a great accomplishment and shouldn’t be dampened if March doesn’t go our way.

The rhyme or reason is that the blue bloods win more regular season games and are consistently better, so they win more in the tournament. Historically, 1-3 seeds win an overwhelming majority of champs and make an even more overwhelming amount of F4s. Consistent regular season success leads to tourney breakthroughs and consistent tourney success. George mason, USCjr, Auburn are the outliers that happen obviously, but if you want to go deep in the tourney, it starts with having good teams consistently winning from November to March.
I agree. It's about good teams remaining consistent. Bothers me when people say things like it's all luck or a lot of luck.

I do agree with others that there’s a lot of luck involved, especially if you’re a consistently good, not great team (maybe I should’ve said great in regards to BBs in my earlier reply). We’ve had multiple top 3 seeds in the last six years that have been a bad bounce away from a very easy route to a F4 (2018) and a team that was a bad call away from an E8 (2019). We’ve also had a top 3 seed that just got outplayed in R32 (2022). If we continue this regular season success over the next 6 years, it’s very hard to see us not breaking through. But as I laid out above, in a smaller sample size of 1 decade, luck can have a pretty big impact on tournament outcome.

I swear the guys in sports talk on 990 in the late afternoon and early evening are not basketball minds to say the least. They were talking this evening about how good an idea it might be to rest the starters vs UK. One didn't agree but only because it was UK, and that they'd support resting them vs anyone else.

They all seemed to agree that a #1 seed wasn't worth playing for really and that we'd be better off as a two seed closer to home. Because "did you see the bracket we might draw as the #1 seed."

Every bracket as a #2 had us facing Houston, UConn or Purdue as the #1. Far better to have anyone else as our #2 than them as our #1.

Man, terrible to have that take and be a "sports expert" in this area. As as been posted here. 1 seeds fare dramatically better at every level of the tournament vs #2 seeds and the gap grows with each round.
I how truly don’t understand how that garbage show stays on the air and is apparently popular. Both are pretty pompous and it’s mostly them just listening to themselves and tell everyone who disagrees that they’re stupid and don’t watch the sport. That’s when they’re talking sports and not talking about bodily functions, snacks, movies, and their other sophomoric drivel. I stopped listening a while back. They try way too hard to be edgy, and hot take-y. Not to mention it’s the same show every hour for four hours, they just revisit the same thing and say the same thing each hour. I can listen to the other shows on there, but not that one.I guess is tailored for an audience that’s younger than me.

….errr, not younger, just those with minds more pliable.

Notice that Dalton is shorter than Santi, and appears to be in the background. I just wondered if Dalton was purposefully deferring to the Seniors who have been there much longer.

Santi is also standing closer to the camera which makes him look taller than he really is.

If you saw them standing next to each other on the court, you’ll notice Dalton is much taller than Santi.

Yes, I know that. I’m referring to the image looking like Dalton seems to purposefully be deferring to his teammates because they’ve been around longer.

Good catch. It could be that. Or it could also just be they wanted all 4 players to be the same size in the pic for aesthetics purposes. I like your idea better though!

We all know UK has NBA talent but I’m feeling really good about this game.

With the SEC Regular Season wrapped up, there shouldn’t be any pressure on our guys.

I think they’ll play loose and give it their all on Senior Day.

Also, JJJ seems to play very well against Kentucky.

I know this is a long shot, but are there any TN fans in Virginia Beach area watching the game at a local bar. I had to come out this way for work and was looking for somewhere to go.

Go Vols!
