I see it exactly the opposite. It was a disservice to that team to say we only beat Duke because the officials swallowed the whistle. Duke was flopping and didn't get rewarded for it while we played sound defense. You'd have thought we mugged Mother Teresa from how the Duke grads reacted post game. This seems to take away from the only thing we were good at last season - hard nosed, physical defense. We absolutely abused them that game and would not have won with a tight whistle.
I'm honestly not sure. But when the whistle does a 180 in games, it's usually him. I believe he reffed at least three of our losses. How many games have we lost this year that he has called versus won that he has called? It feels like 50-50 for him and that he reffed 75% of our losses. There might be something to us not playing well when he is the ref even though I think the last few losses he reffed have been pretty fairly called.
I feel like Aidoo especially struggles with tough teams
Pat is maddening because he's inconsistent. Our first lost to South Carolina was a punch out first half with no calls. We went ahead in the first couple minutes of the second half and we got 5 fouls called on us in under two minutes and 4 were him. South Carolina went back and front and the slugfest resumed.
As much as I hate to say it, and I’m usually an optimist 95 percent of the time, I think this team is cooked. We’re so reliant on 2 guys and if they no show then we can’t do anything on Offense. Our depth was thought to be our strong suit early in the year but we literally only have 2-3 guys that we can count on each game. We are very similar to Kansas and it has become glaringly obvious. Again, if I’m wrong then bump this and make me eat it, I pray that I am wrong. If not now, then idk when we will be in a better position on paper.
Good analysis and it really does boil down to Santi and JJJ. Without them performing, it makes it tough on everyone. Not sure what’s up with 5th year seniors who have been very productive in the past but if they don’t snap out of it, we probably aren’t going past the Sweet Sixteen. Just the simple facts. No postgame report, tried to watch it while at work and honestly have no interest in rewatching it lol. We looked like $h!t all the way around, my quick takes are this…
-people are already on edge about March and tourney time, 2 losses in a row isn’t easing any of those concerns heading into the NCAAT.
- make an E8 and nobody cares about that game, winning the SECT would’ve been nice but everyone has been looking towards NCAAT, that’s what counts.
- you aren’t going far if Santi & JJJ continue to give you nothing, they’ve become a liability to the offense. Teams are leaving them alone, doubling Knecht, collapsing on Zeigler and Aidoo and daring those 2 guys to beat them and they look absolutely terrified when the ball hits their hands, it’s hard to watch, not sure the answer and I don’t think you can bench them and reach your ceiling either, but they have to snap out of it. This is it for those guys, go see a shrink or something, but you can’t keep playing like this, would hate to see their careers end this way.
- we struggle against physicality, nothing new to the story, will be something to watch with matchups in the tourney. Aidoo wasn’t great by any stretch, but not to beat a dead horse he wasn’t getting help, same for Knecht and Zeigler. You can’t have 2 guys on the court as a non threat, it makes life hell on the others and just increases the pressure on them as well.
Well, at least in 2019 we made a S16. That feels questionable now, sadly.
Yeah, but I mean also Auburn is about to possibly win the SECT and will go into the NCAAT hot. I swear to God if we have another year where the whole season as the best team in the conference only to exit early while Auburn gets hot and makes the FF, I may just finally give up on us ever getting a break.
