The Official “Regular Posters of the Basketball Forum” Thread

This team seemingly just reads their own press too much - they laid a turd after clinching SEC regular season and then came out here and laid another. They all but said they came out expecting to win and Miss State just lay down. They’ve said it multiple times this year after losses. Maybe them getting torn to shreds by local and national press for the next few days will light a fire and do them some good.

They are definitely going to be a trendy upset pick now and I have seen a wealth of “Regular Season Rick” takes by national media members already. They kind of brought this on themselves. It’s up to them to make the doubters eat it. We’ll see if they can.

Honestly after last Saturday I really don't get this performance. I could see a slow start but my lord this was embarrassing.

It's also why I don't have much confidence that they actually take it as a wake up call because they slept through the last wake up call.

They flame out next weekend and I will no longer attempt to defend any of it. I mean a regular season SEC outright title is great, but to follow it up with a bunch of turds......yeah.....you brought it on yourself. And I got nothing to defend it.

Yeah, if this team of all teams fails to make the 2nd weekend after this performance, it’s going to really suck.

Kinda where I’m at. I’ll hold off using any buzzwords, but this team has to make a run or it’s going to shake a lot of people’s confidence in the programs ability to ever do it in the near future.

Lol. Still haven't learned to accept Barnes for what he is. HOF coach that will never win a Natty. Why is everyone so surprised? It was a fun season. It's over.

One thing that gives me some hope, NCAA tournament games usually don't see tackle basketball allowed. Teams not being allowed to play uber physical will help us. We fold up when we get that style of play and there's no calls.

We made our run last year off the officiating being the opposite of what you just described.

That was just Duke whiners making it seem worse than it was. Flopping, which was Duke's strategy, doesn't work. But these heavy, constant slugfest games that are Pat Adams specials don't often appear in the NCAA T.

I’m confused, I thought Pat Adams was known for blowing the whistle too much? Which is why people hate him. Now his specialty is allowing a slugfest with no fouls?

Pat is maddening because he's inconsistent. Our first lost to South Carolina was a punch out first half with no calls. We went ahead in the first couple minutes of the second half and we got 5 fouls called on us in under two minutes and 4 were him. South Carolina went back and front and the slugfest resumed.

This seems to take away from the only thing we were good at last season - hard nosed, physical defense. We absolutely abused them that game and would not have won with a tight whistle.

Yeah but he took the team before and after that 2022 team to the CWS. I would take 2 Final Four appearances in a heartbeat.

I hear you, but the CWS is the final 8, so we technically CTV hasn’t made it to the final 4 either, not knocking him because what’s he’s accomplished has been amazing

I guess. But there isn’t a traditional Final Four though in Omaha. I guess we can say Tony made an Elite 8 and a Sexy Six then because they won an elimination game last year in their bracket in Omaha.

I understand that the Final Four is a crapshoot. But this is undoubtedly our best shot to make the Final Four since 2018-2019. I don’t think it’s crazy to think if this team cannot break through under Barnes, what team will? We aren’t going to see another team with the balance of experience and star power in Knoxville for awhile.

We’ll see what happens in the tourney, but if it doesn’t go well, we’ll just have to hope that the Ewing theory is real, and we can win next year like we won the title after Peyton moved on.

This team has flaws, but it would be an enormous missed opportunity if we done make a run to the E8.

Still, today just totally rocked my confidence in this team. A loss wasn’t totally out of the picture coming into today imo, but I never would have thought we would get humiliated.

Perhaps we play with an edge and manage to get to the S16 (at which point anything can happen), but as of 3/15/24 6:23 cst, I think the most likely result is that we get bounced in the round of 32. Hope I’m wrong.

Well, for better or worse, Barnes is going to be kind of forced to play Sophomores next year. We have 5 of them on the bench.

Assuming Barnes doesn’t hang it up after this season. Considering that he’s losing a generational player and two guys that he’s very close with off the court, it wouldn’t shock me at all if he calls it quits at the conclusion of this season.

He’s not retiring yet. He’ll at least make it through ZZ’s senior season. But I would guess he has 2-3 season left.

What frustrates me is that Santi & JJJ both know what SEC play is like and both had arguably their worst seasons as Vols this year.

I appreciate them for coming back, but they both wound up being big disappointments. I wish so badly that at least one of them could get on a heater in the NCAA Tournament, but it’s hard to see that happening.

How many games have we lost this year that he has called versus won that he has called? It feels like 50-50 for him and that he reffed 75% of our losses. There might be something to us not playing well when he is the ref even though I think the last few losses he reffed have been pretty fairly called.

I feel like Aidoo especially struggles with tough teams
