The Official “Regular Posters of the Basketball Forum” Thread

I don’t buy this at all. I’m sorry. It’s just cover. NIL, agents, the transfer portal, the changing landscape, none of that is new. It’s been around all off-season and for a few years now. You don’t bail on your team a few weeks before the season starts and leave them with no coach because you don’t like the direction of college basketball.

He could have retired in April if he hated it so much. There is more to this story. Maybe we never hear it, but saying it’s about NIL is just a cover.
I agree. Also at #21,537

Bennett said this summer when he signed another raise/extension. He was making close to 5 million a season.

"I love UVA and it has always been a special place for me and my family," Bennett said in a release. "I'm grateful for the opportunity to work with Carla Williams and Jim Ryan and to represent the University of Virginia. My staff and I look forward to adapting to the new landscape of college athletics. We will continue to build one of the best basketball programs on and off the court without compromising the values of our university. Go Hoos!"

So I also think the NIL stuff is bogus, and it's very hypocritical coming from someone who is making millions off the efforts of the players.

Yep, guys (see Stoops for a football example) whining about how hard their jobs are when they make millions and millions each year just makes me dislike them more. So tone deaf. If you’re getting millions of dollars, your job should be hard.

Old topic, new thoughts. Some of us (including me) may have been wrong about Zach Edey. Looks like he is going to start at center for the Grizzlies. Showing surprising agility and is getting up and down the floor. Posting up and scoring. I’m sure he’ll have ups and downs like all rookies but he’s doing better than I thought he would. Great for the Grizz if he can handle it because they are in dire need of a center and he’s the only true one in the roster. The only issue I see is how he holds up injury wise over the long season. With him with the Grizz and Dalton showing out, got some new reasons to watch the NBA again. Looking forward to Dalton’s debut tonight.

The vast majority of takes on Edey in this forum were unashamedly biased sour grapes and unreasonable. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I like the guy by any means, but there has been close to 0 objective discussion on this topic. If Edey holds up, like you alluded to, he could be a fun NBA player to watch. I kinda like the Grizzlies, so I hope he becomes a likable player. However, he will need to give me a reason to like him.

I'm so thrilled to see Knecht's off-season NBA progress. It will be a new world for him starting tonight, so I hope people will understand if he doesn't average like 20ppg; though that's certainly not off the table. If he can be that rookie that can immediately contribute, I think we may see some posters also backtrack their negative comments towards the Lakers and their staff and players.

I think a lot of the negative talk on Edey was on his general attitude and also the fact he got consistently favorable calls (no 3 second calls ever and favorable foul and non foul calls). Talent wise, he’s pretty agile for a guy 7’4”. The question I’ve had is if his body will hold up over 82 games.

As far as the Lakers go, I think the dislike there is the attention they draw that’s not commensurate with the quality of play the last few years. Also the number of frontrunner fans they attract. Kind of like the Yankees or the Cowboys or Alabama. But Dalton certainly makes them more interesting for me to watch. Would like to see him average 10 to 12 a game and play decent defense. I think he’s in the rotation.

Is KC out of the league now?

Hopefully NIL keeps some of these guys here longer. Feel like KC might've made more at UT than he did in a super short NBA career and set himself up for more success. Fwiw he would be a senior this year. Crazy to imagine.

Signed with the Raptors for the G- League

I don’t like Edey but I can say he’s flat out proved me wrong so far. I truly did not think he would translate well and would in fact be a liability in the NBA if he was on the floor. He’s looks good though. Still don’t like him or the Grizz lol but I was wrong about his game.

Give him about 45 games on his feet. Guys that big tend toward foot issues.

Yeah, health seems like the question mark with his size. He’s built differently than guys like Wemby or Chet, might be harder for him to stay healthy.
Did he have injuries in college? Seemed like he was pretty available. Big difference going to 82 games, but not some of the same red flags as other giants at least so far

They shut him down this summer during the summer league due to an ankle injury, but I don’t think he’s been injured much so far in his career.

I always think of Yao Ming. Poor dude never got shut down for the summer, even trying to recuperate. Had commitments to play the Chinese national team.

Lakers checking in Bronny a little over halfway through the 2nd quarter is just laughable. And of course his first defensive possession the Wolves go right at him and score a bucket. Completely unserious organization.
I think it’s the right decision to go ahead and get that spectacle out of the way as early as possible so you can move on
