The 4 highest ranked conference champs will be seeded above us with the first round byes. If SMU loses they should fall below us. But then Clemson or AZ State will jump over us as the 4th conference champion. I think that Penn Stste getting smoked by Oregon is our only chance of getting one of the 5-8 seeds and a home game.

We’re behind Georgia, Big 10 (Oregon or PSU), and two of ACC, Big 12, and Boise State as the top 4 ranked conference champs. Then of the 4 first round home teams it’s Texas and Notre Dame and 2 of TN, tOSU, and PSU (or Oregon if they lose). I think we’re #8 and at Neyland if Oregon can lay a complete whooping on PSU.
Agree with all that. But it doesn't address why you think SMU needs to not be impressive against Clemson. Thats the part I didn't understand.

Because the committee could slide them ahead of us if they want 2 from the ACC in the first 8. Clemson won’t jump over us, but SMU is right where we are and will have a better record. I’d rather just remove them from any possibility.

It’s all moot though. We’re going to play at tOSU or at PSU with a long shot of going to Notre Dame and an even longer shot if one of those Big10s coming to Neyland. They’ll probably stick with us going to Columbus in the 8/9. Falling a spot or two or might not be a bad thing since we’re probably traveling anyway. 8/9 means round 2 at Oregon for the winner of that matchup.

I hope we dont play at the blue field. It’s hard to watch games on that abomination. I’d rather play on dead grass at South Bend.

I’m just thrilled to be in. Especially after not being able to take care of business with Arkansas.

Id agree. I love playing on South Bend. If we gotta travel, that's my choice. Also like the matchup.

So, I assume you meant SMU impressing in a loss, then. I interpreted that as SMU impressing in a win, which wouldn't have mattered because they'd have been in over us regardless.

Yes.

There will be a lot of debate. Which conference doesn’t get the bye? Who will be the last team in the field of 12? The Ducks need a couple more touchdowns to create some controversy whether or not OSU gets a home game. I think that the committee has foreshadowed that tOSU will get a home game over TN.

First 4:
Oregon
Georgia
Clemson or SMU
Arizona State or Boise

Middle 4 (with round 1 at home):
Notre Dame
Texas
Ohio State
Penn State or TN

Last 4:
TN or PSU
Boise or AZ State or SMU
Indiana
Bama

Big 10 (4)
SEC (3)
ACC (2)
Notre Dame
Boise
Arizona State

Bama sweating right now for #12. They’d have to bump Indiana, TN, or SMU (if they lose). I think they’re out if Clemson wins.

There should be a one day ban from posting on volnation to anyone who posts in the kentucky loss thread on a day/night when Kentucky actually wins. Saw that thread got bumped, got excited and then saw that they beat Zaga.

Just kidding but seriously got my hopes up for nothing
I feel into the same trap and also ended up bumping it too 😂

Kentucky winning is the worst sports event of the week.
