I’m very curious to see if Pope will alter his defensive strategy against the Vols. Will he drop down again defensively as he did at TBA? Has our torrid shooting changed his mind on how to defend us? Ultimately, how many 3’s will we shoot this time? Will Mashack get 26 minutes as he did against Oklahoma? A lot to ponder.

think we are going to much more aggressive with butler. i know south carolina is bad but clearly with butler back and a bit of depth added we exerted a lot more effort on the defensive side

I’m not really talking about defensive effort per se. I’m talking about defensive strategy that tends to protect the interior at all costs and allowing more 3’s. Pope was clear that they were going to make Tennessee beat them from the outside in Knoxville.

I would think Pope would stick with what worked for him last time until it doesn't. Ultimately, I think this game will come down to us slowing them down offensively - I'd love to chase them off the 3-pt. line and make them make tough 2's. It's harder to generate scoring runs without transition buckets or 3's, so not turning it over will also be huge.

I would guess that Mashack's minutes reduction has as much to do with Gainey's play and having multiple scoring threats on the floor at the same time without a big defensive dropoff as anything else. Igor's improvement as the season has gone on has probably reduced the 3-guard approach as well. Rick has improved quality depth and more lineup options to work with this year.

What this season has taught me so far is when we’re taking care of the ball and hitting open shots we’re as good as there is in college basketball this season. If we’re struggling to throw it in the ocean then high scoring teams can knock us off, but we’re still capable of winning rock fights. Who knows how our shots are gonna fall on a given night?

Did I miss why @bleedingTNorange stopped doing the postgame threads?
After losses this place is miserable, I’ll be honest, even after wins there’s a drive by presence that’s lack of knowledge on hoops can also be nearly equally as frustrating. But especially after losses I’ve tried to avoid this place to not have to read the ignorance and feel the need to respond, and then nobody probably wants to read my reports 2-3 days later.

I enjoy them even when delayed!

I understand what you mean, but I would definitely still read them 2-3 days later. Win or loss

No question about it. The ignorance is overwhelming at times. Too many folks that don’t know the game that overreact to everything.
