I don’t think it’s shocking considering he played in a league that Hofstra is in. He has made several strong moves to the basket in SEC play. If he had to be a go-to scorer in a lower league, I can see the talent. I think he also has a good shot. I’ve missed a few games, but from the ones I’ve seen, he’s had some rim outs from three. SEC is just different.I’m surprised some folks post favorably about Dubar’s play. It’s shocking he averaged 18 last season and shot 40% from 3 then produces nothing this season. The team and Barnes continue to make positive comments about Dubar in interviews so maybe he’s going to light it up and win us a game this year….we can hope anyway.
Agreed. It will be interesting what Barnes decides moving forward with some of these issues.I think Mashack fits better when ZZ is not on the floor.
Our offense is too inside/out with ZZ and JM isn’t enough of a shooting threat.
When it’s Gainey running point or point by committee, offense runs a bit more traditional flex and Mashack spends a lot more time inside the line where he does have to be guarded
Edit: To clarify, when ZZ is playing, the ball sticks in his hands more. When it’s someone else paying point, there is way more passing and ball movement. And that creates less opportunity for people to slack off JM.
Maybe those numbers don’t paint the whole picture. I’d bet Barnes believes Mashack is one of the top 2 defenders on the team and the only one who has shown the versatility to guard 1-5.That surprised me. I love the guy, but gotta go for the ultimate goal and not just be about rewarding seniority.
This is true and backed by the stats also, Mashack & Zeigler don’t coexist well on the offensive end, but the question becomes who’s gonna ride the bench then? We know it’s not likely to be Zeigler.I think Mashack fits better when ZZ is not on the floor.

Nobody questions Mashack is a great defender, especially 1-1, the issue is on the offensive end. He gives up so much to Gainey on that end that even though he’s the better defender it doesn’t make up for the difference offensively.Maybe those numbers don’t paint the whole picture. Seems like this discussion about cutting his minutes is off base anyway. We only play 4 guys for 3 guard positions and occasionally go small with all 4 on the court. That’s 120+ minutes a game for 4 guys. I think when we’re playing our highest effort defense, then 30 minutes each is a really good option. With Gainey’s improved PG play, ZZ looked better with some more rest. JMO
If I had one wish left, it would be “I wish Mashack would drive to basket more often and draw fouls”Nobody questions Mashack is a great defender, especially 1-1, the issue is on the offensive end. I think the suggestion/thought process is maybe we give up a little on the defensive end to gain much more on the offensive end.
