One issue is just that Mashack simply won't take shots. He's a 47.1% FG (best among guards) and actually shoots 34.4% (2nd on team) from deep higher than Gainey, ZZ, and Igor but he just does not take his looks.

4.4 FGAs per game is nearly half that of Gainey and Igor and even Felix takes more attempts.

It wouldn't be an issue, but Shack is 3rd in minutes and Barnes' philosophy is "take the best shot" and doesn't care who it is coming from.
This is 100% the issue, he doesn’t look at the basket half the time, and teams have responded that way. If he wants that to change that’s completely in his control to do, but as you said to be 3rd in MPG and 6th in FGA/game is a bad strategy. He needs to spend some time with Dubar lol.

Yeah, Dubar gets another game or two under his belt and he'll move to 6th... (I'm serious he's that close behind)

I would love to see a game where Shack just punishes teams for not respecting him on offense and he drops 20+ or something. One game doing that and suddenly things open up when he's on the court and spacing improves.

I almost guarantee you that Dubar is top-2 in shots per minutes played. Irrational confidence and totally void of a conscience.

Yea at this point it seems mental, and I’m not sure that’s going to change and if you’re the staff obviously at some point you can’t keep hoping it will change. I would love to see them get up big in a game and tell him for the final 7-8 minutes you’re taking every shot down the court that a teammate sets you up for and see what happens.

Honestly I don't mind him being aggressive as an off the bench guy. Cade is the same way, but there's just a big difference in Basketball IQ in those two. Cade does all the work and then finds himself in the right spot. Dubar just seems to plan to take the 3s if he has any space sometimes his shot looks rushed or off balance even.

Dubar probably more than any other transfer really needed an extra year. I see how much Gainey has improved from last year to this year and actually think Dubar would have done the same.

Not a knock on staff, or anything...but the culture they built that Mashack came into kind of created tentative offense in him IMO. JJJ was a do everything guy and a great Vol. But not once in his 5 years did he average even taking 10 shots a game. And honestly I think staff identifies team first guys out of HS that are defensive minded and that's what you get. JJJ, Fulky, Mashack, Pons, Alexander.

Cause when they bring in offensive guys they don't have to coach them into taking shots.

Chandler lead the team in FGAs with 11.5
Santi took at least 10 in back to back seasons when he was being asked to be one of our main scorers
Turner & Bowden both had no issue taking over the score first mentality in their senior year either
DK, Chaz, Grant, Admiral...it's for sure a mental thing
